In loving memory of

Ronald "Ronnie" Franklin Powell
November 9, 1953 - August 12, 2019

Monday evening, August 12, 2019, Ron suddenly passed away and moved on to his eternal home. Ron was born in Mocksville in 1953. He graduated from Davie High School in 1972, and continued his education at Catawba College, where he graduated in 1976. Ron was truly a beloved husband, father, son, and grandfather. A truly selfless man, he always put his family first, no matter the personal cost. He was an avid outdoorsman; loving to hunt and fish with his friends, his wife, and even his daughter. Ron was an excellent winemaker and loved spending time in the vineyard, which was a passion project for him and Cathy. He was also a talented artist and gunsmith, creating lifelike duck decoys and beautiful one-of-a-kind hand-engraved guns. He was preceded in death by his father, Benjamin Franklin Powell, and his sister, Brenda Caldwell. He is survived by his adoring wife, Cathy; his loving mother, Marie Powell; his children, Eric Powell, Kayla Hutchens, and Jennifer (Mike) Myers; his grandchildren, Hunter Hutchens, Ariel Myers and Patrick Myers; other relatives and friends. " Dear Kathy and family, There are no words to ease your loss of Ron, your sadness and deep grief. Charlie so enjoyed working with Ron, and we delighted visiting with you in church and elsewhere and catching up with Eric's musical achievements and news of your daughters and grandchildren. Ron's talent with his beautiful decoys was such a gift. With love, friendship and continuing prayers, Terry Durham, NC "

" Shocked and saddened to see Remembering Ronald Powell as I road by Center Church on my way home and the passing of another classmate of 1972. " Went into Suntrust Bank, late 2010 or early 2011, on Yadkinville Rd., Mocksville, N.C. Ron recognized me as one of his classmates from many years ago, in Davie County public schools. He was obviously employed by the bank, decked out in a dapper business suit. Asked him about one or two classmates I had sighted, and one or two teachers we both come by in Davie Co. public school. I observed him to be a nice and friendly man. Rest In Peace, Ron. "

" Kathy, Marvin and I are lifting you and your family up in prayer. We always enjoyed visiting with you and Ron at Mike's each month, talking wine and family. Ron always let us know how proud he was of your dedication to the vineyard and your family. His Facebook posts showed his love for his children and you. Please keep in touch and come visit. Continued prayers of comfort and strength. Love, Geba and Marvin "
