Darrell Lee Mullin, 55, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, died Saturday, August 25, 2012, at his home. Visitation will begin after 12:00 noon on Wednesday, August 29, 2012 at the Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. that evening. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Thursday, August 30th, at Swedesburg Evangelical Lutheran Church with Rev. David Aanonson officiating. In lieu of flowers, family and friends may contribute to an agricultural scholarship that will be established in Darrell's name or the University of Iowa Children's Hospital. The son of Donald LaVerne and Helen Marie Olson Mullin, Darrell was born on November 13, 1956, in Mt. Pleasant, IA. He was a 1976 WACO graduate and attended Lincoln Technical Institute in Des Moines for one year. On June 24, 1978, he married Coleen Marie Ridinger in Swedesburg. Darrell was a lifelong farmer. He began his farming career with his parents and then his father-in-law and brother-in-law. In recent years he farmed with his sons and brother, Dale, north of Mt. Pleasant. He served on the board of directors for the Henry County Fair and F.S.A. County Committee. Darrell was a N.R.C.S. commissioner and a Farm Bureau member. When his sons were young, he served as a coach and as a board member for Little League. He was a member of the Swedesburg Evangelical Lutheran Church. Darrell enjoyed deer hunting with friends and antique tractors. Along with his wife, Coleen, Darrell is survived by two sons, Derek (Tina) Mullin and Jason (Tara) Mullin, all of Mt. Pleasant, IA; his mother, Helen Mullin of Winfield, IA; two brothers, Duane Mullin of Mediapolis, IA and Dale Mullin of Winfield, IA; and grandchildren Caden, Charlize, and Carly Mullin, as well as another grandchild expected in October. Darrell is also survived by his mother-in-law, Marilyn Ridinger and a brother-in-law, Curt (Renee) Ridinger, all of Mt. Pleasant, IA. He was preceded in death by his father, father-in-law, and grandparents.
