"Dan heard I was real sick and in 5he hospital and he would call me every few days to see how I was doing and we kept in touch. Lifting each other up. I will NEVER forget his kindness. He will be missed, very much ?"
Daniel Joseph Morris, 65, of Negaunee and formerly of the DeWitt, MI area, left to be with the Lord on Friday, July 3, 2020. He was under the care of the wonderful staff at Spectrum Health in Grand Rapids, MI and passed on his terms with his family by his side.
Dan was born on September 28, 1954 in St. Johns, MI to the late William and Mary (Simon) Morris. He was a graduate of DeWitt High School.
Dan touched many lives during his 65 years on earth. He was married to Kim for 30 years before parting ways in 2005, but was blessed with four wonderful children.
Dan worked at the Marquette Branch Prison until his retirement. He loved his family, especially his grandchildren. Anyone who had the pleasure of knowing Dan knew that he was there to help or get into trouble, depending upon when in his lifetime you knew him. He was always up for a good time, whether it was fishing, golf, family Christmases in July or just a random meetup. Dan kept his sense of humor to the very end. He left this earth as the Dan everyone knew and loved.
Dan is survived by his children, Dan II (Torie Eddy-Morris) of Juneau, WI, Audrey (Gary Floyd) of New Caney, TX, Valarie of Negaunee and Ben (Heather Zastrow) of Bonduel, WI; his grandchildren, Spencer, Evangeline, Jordan, Parker, Patience, Megan, Ashley, Nick, Cadin, Hannah and Dylan; siblings, Mae Morris of Eden Prairie, MN and Pete Morris of South Bend, IN. Besides his parents, Dan was preceded in death by a brother, Ronald J. Morris; and sisters-in-law, Mary J. Morris and Mary C. Morris.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, July 26th, 2020 at 2:30 p.m. at Canale-Tonella Funeral Home and Cremation Services with Rev. Gregory Heikkala officiating. Visitation will take place starting at 12:30 p.m. in the funeral home until the time of the service. For live streaming of Daniel's service please visit https://my.gather.app/remember/daniel-morris

"So very sorry to hear about Dans death. Mae and family you are in my thoughts and prayers. Peace be with you all in this time of sorrow."
"Steve and I met and worked with Dan for many years at MBP. For many of those years, Dan was Steves supervisor in the warehouse. You couldn\'t ask for a better supervisor Steve says. I knew Dan to be a great listener. He was always willing to take a minute or 2 to check in and see how things were going for you. When he shared his life, he always beamed when he\'d talk about his children and would give you an update on how they were doing. Dan was a genuinely kind, good person; and had one of the nicest smiles ever. You will be missed Dan; it was a privilege knowing you. "
"I was so sorry to hear of Dan\'s death. I had the privilege to know him for many years and always enjoyed talking with him. My deepest sympathy to your family. Ann Olds"
"I was sorry to hear of Dan\'s passing. Our paths had not crossed in many years until face book. Growing up I spent many a day playing at the Morris household and have many fond memories of all. My sincere condolences and prayer to his family. May the memories you all have bring you peace. "
"Dan, Audrey, Ben & Val- So sorry to hear the loss of your dad. I will always remember him as \"Mr. Dan\" and remember him fondly ---laughing as he yelled \"Hey look! It\'s S\'Not Renee! \"when I\'d come by the house on Lake St. in Negaunee with Torie & April & Kris & the crew. Still don\'t know if I should have taken that as an insult or not, but I honestly didn\'t. Sending hugs and all that stuff. Renee (Valente) Larson"
"I am sadden today to hear that my good buddy Dan has left this world. Dan was one of my favorite golf partners and others at the golf courses I play with will miss him. A few years ago a team that Dan and I were on was in a play off and we were tied until the last hole when dan got an eagle on his own and we won. He was a super golfer. He also loved his children, grandchildren and great grand children. He spoke about them often while golfing and such. My children will also be sorry to hear of his passing. He attended my daughters weddings. He bought them both nice cook books as gifts and he loved cooking, and food. My son Joe says he was a good customer at our Midway store. I\'m gonna miss Dan. I\'ll send up some prayers and trust that he\'s in a better place. Good bye for now Dan old buddy. "
