Julie McAlpine
July 20, 1935 - September 23, 2018

Julie Ann (Carlson) McAlpine, 83, of Middletown, Rhode Island, passed away on September 23, 2018 at the Grand Islander Nursing Home in Middletown. She was born on July 20, 1935 in Honolulu, HI, the daughter of the late Rear Admiral Daniel Carlson and the late Natalie (Savage) Carlson. Julie graduated from Salve Regina University with a Bachelors degree, and later received her Masters degree from the University of Rhode Island. She went on the received her Doctorate from the University of Connecticut, and in 1970, she was the assistant professor of the English Department. She later returned to Newport, where she taught at Sheffield School, in the gifted program.She was a member of St. Lucys Parish in Middletown, RI. Julie is survived by her nieces, Thela Hoffman of Brawley, CA and Laurie Bissett, and her great nephews, Robert Sullivan Jr. and William Sullivan. She was preceded in death by her husband Walter E. McAlpineBurial will be in St. Columba Cemetery, Brown's Lane in Middletown of Friday September 28, 2018 at 11:00, in the Chapel.
