Betsy Sullivan Ertter

Betsy Sullivan Ertter, of 51 Middle Road, Portsmouth RI, passed away peacefully in her sleep on July 8th, at the age of 86. Betsy was born in Colver, PA on September 11, 1930 and was the daughter of Daniel James Sullivan and Malinda (Farabaugh) Sullivan. Betsy was preceded in death by her loving husband Harry Ertter, and her eight brothers and sisters: Claranna Porada, Bernice Keenan, Thelma Cramer, Theola Wellen, Delrose Vogel, Olean Biller, Joseph Sullivan, and Thomas Sullivan. Betsy is survived by her three children: Linda Soisson, (husband Andrew Patrick Soisson) of Salt Lake City, UT; Amy Stowe, (husband Christopher Stowe) of Portsmouth RI; and Harry Ertter, (fianc Kristin Stewart) of Scottsdale AZ. Betsy adored her seven grandchildren and one great grandchild: Sean Soisson, (Laura Smous and great granddaughter, Louisa), Colin Soisson, Erin Soisson McWhorter (Josh McWhorter), Devin Soisson, (Kara Pirlo), Shane Ertter, Alexander Stowe, and Emma Stowe.Betsy received a degree in English from Mount Aloysius College in Cresson PA, and soon after met her beloved husband of 45 years, Harry Ertter. They moved together to Johnstown PA, where they started their family. Betsy was a devoted mother of three, staying at home during their younger years, but managed to later work and advance from bank teller to a Vice President of Cambria Savings and Loan Association in Johnstown PA. After the early passing of her husband Harry, Betsy later moved to Scottsdale AZ and was an active member of her church, Saint Patrick, where she attended daily Mass and served as a Eucharistic minister for many years. Betsy was embraced easily by everyone she met, and as her son Harry would say, "she never met a stranger". Betsy was an avid bridge player and was sought after by many bridge groups due to her skill and competitive play. After 13 years in Scottsdale, Betsy moved to Portsmouth RI and was welcomed with open arms by the community of the Anthony House in Portsmouth. She became a member of the Saint Barnabus Catholic Church and during her six short months in Rhode Island, Betsy charmed everyone she met with her quick Irish wit, friendly personality, warm smile and hearty laugh. Betsy was a voracious reader, dog lover and an avid traveler, visiting her three children around the world. She had an adventurous spirit and took full advantage of what life had to offer, such as going hot-air ballooning at 80 years old having a fear of heights, and going ATV riding with her son just last year. Betsy will be going home to Scottsdale AZ for her funeral mass at 10 am on July 24th, at Saint Patrick Catholic Church, to celebrate her life with her friends and family. Per Betsy's request, she will be buried next to her late husband Harry, at the Saint Benedict's parish cemetery in Carrolltown PA.
