Prudence Island, RI - Joan C. (Brownell) Ferreira, 79, of Prudence Island, died Wednesday, March 26, 2014 at Kindred Country Gardens Skilled Nursing and Rehab Center Swansea, MA. She was the wife of the late Henry P. Ferreira. Born in Newport, RI on July 23, 1934, she was the daughter of the late John C. and Lucy M. (George) Brownell. Mrs. Ferreira had worked as a clerk for the Portsmouth Public Works Department for 25 years, retiring in 1994. She was a member of the Port Am Federation and the Portsmouth Senior Center. Mrs. Ferreira enjoyed quilting, knitting, crocheting, and other crafts. She was a member of the Prudence island Quilters, she enjoyed movies and Senior Bus Trips. She is survived by her children, Joseph Ferreira and his wife Janice of Little Compton, RI, Julie Barrett and her husband Greg, Mary Lou Dietz and her husband Charles, and Robert Ferreira all of Portsmouth, RI, her grandchildren, Matthew Ferreira, Lillian Ferreira, Gretchen Ferreira Barron, Peter Ferreira, Francis Silveira, Christina Barrett Carmen, Katherine Dietz Waite, Karen Dietz, Christopher Dietz, Kevin Dietz, Damien Ferreira, Brian Ferreira, nine great grandchildren, and her sister Gail (Brownell) Cotta and her husband Raymond of Portsmouth, RI.She was the mother of the late Alfred Ferreira and the grandmother of the late Benjamin Ferreira.A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, April 2, 2014, at 10:00 a.m., in the Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth.
