Lynn Ann Clawges

Lynn Ann Wheeler Clawges, 53, of Morgantown, died after a short illness April 1, 2017 at UPMC Presbyterian with her husband and son at her side.

She was born in Morgantown, September 3, 1963, the daughter of the late Russell Samuel Wheeler, and Patricia Ann Smith Wheeler Castelli and husband Charles of Hilton Head, SC.



Lynn Ann graduated from Morgantown High School, Class of 1981, as well as West Virginia University, Class of 1986 1988 with a Bachelor and Master of Arts in Secondary Education. She was a teacher at Morgantown High School for over 20 years until her retirement. Throughout her career she was also the head womens tennis coach and JV softball coach at MHS, the head basketball coach at South Middle School and started the softball program at Suncrest Middle School. She also worked for West Virginia University for over 25 years as the official timer for WVU Womens Basketball games. She helped start the girls softball program in Mon County.

She was the first president and helped create the local teachers union branch of WV-AFT. She received a Fulbright Scholarship for Teachers, which she was very proud of, and spent a summer in Japan with other educators.

Lynn Ann loved to travel and spend time with her husband, John, was an avid WVU fan and also loved spending as much time as possible with her grandson Jace, who was her pride and joy.



In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her grandparents, Foster and Stella Wheeler, and James A. and Fannye K. Smith.

Along with her mother, she is survived by her loving husband of 35 years, John David Clawges, II; her son and best friend, John David (J.D.) Clawges, III and wife, Jennifer, and her grandson John David (Jace) Clawges, IV all of Morgantown; an uncle, James A. Smith Jr. and partner Christopher S. Whittemore of Sunnyvale, CA; sister Cheryl Lee Wheeler of Hilton Head, SC; three nieces Aubrey Ann Vessecchia and her husband Joseph, Danielle Clawges, and Stephanie McArdle and husband Jared all of Morgantown; several other nieces, nephews, great- nieces and great nephews, and her loving dog, Kallie.



Friends may join with the family to honor Lynn Anns life and legacy at Smith Funeral Cremation Care, 108 Holland Ave., Morgantown, on Tuesday, April 4th from 3:00 - 8:00 PM, and again on Wednesday, April 5th from 10:00 AM until the time of the funeral service at 11:00 AM with Pastor Fred Guidi officiating. She will be laid to rest at East Oak Grove Cemetery.



Flowers will be accepted at the funeral home.
