In loving memory of

Ethel Harris
December 18, 1921 - March 28, 2018

Ethel Harris was born on December 18, 1921 to the proud parents of Willie and Sadie Simmons, in Alto, Louisiana.

She received her formal education at St. Lukes School. Ethel accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at St Lukes Baptist Church.

Ethel was united in marriage to Fred Harris in 1946 in Rayville, Louisiana. In 1954 the couple moved to San Diego, CA. From that union a son was born. He was a dream that came true. They decided to name him Gary.

Soon after moving to San Diego, CA, Ethel united with St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor D. Morrow. She resided in the City Heights community for many years and made many friends. Ethel was called a pillar to that community. During her stay in City Heights, she received The Keys to the City Award, from the Mayor and City Counsel of San Diego, CA.

Ethel worked many years in the hotel industry. After retiring she became a caregiver for her grandchildren. Soon after their birth, the family relocated to Bonita, CA.

Ethel Harris united with Good News Missionary Baptist Church in North Park under the leadership of Pastor Floyd Brown, Sr. whom she dearly loved and always called him her babe. Ethel served on the Mother Board and became Mother of Good News Baptist Church. She was no longer called Mrs. Harris, and called Mother Harris. She was loved by all that graced her presence. What an exceptional Mother she was. Mother Harris loved each and everyone unconditional.

Mother Harris leaves to celebrate her legacy of love her son, Gary (Ana), granddaughters Zunisa (Ibrahim) and Tatiana, a host of great nieces and nephews and adopted daughters and sons.

Mother Harris left memories of love and compassion to all that graced her presence.

"Please accept my condolences for your great loss. I pray that you gain comfort from the quality time spent in her care and from the encouraging conversations had. Also I hope that you find comfort from my favorite Bible verse - Revelation chapter 21 verse 4 - because it talks about pain and death being done way with."
