In loving memory of

Evanie Woods
December 3, 1940 - April 25, 2017

Evanie, affectionately known as Nan-nee by her family, earned the name as a teen, because of her caring and nurturing spirit. She was kind, soft-spoken, and a gentle soul. She had a loyal, loving, and generous heart. She always had time to listen to her family and friends; she was a nanny to all.

Evanie had many talents. However, she was most known for her exceptional cake decorating skills. She enjoyed arts crafts, sewing, and traveling. She was an amazing cook and loved to share her Creole cuisines and converse in the Creole language with many. Evanie worked many years and retired from San Diego State University.

Evanie married Robert Lee Woods and from that union three daughters were born. She moved to San Diego, California in 1974 and became a member of Bethany Deliverance Temple under the leadership of Bishop Vernon L. Lampkin, Sr.

She later joined Faith Hope and Charity under the leadership of Pastor John McKnight where she served as the Mother of the church, Treasurer, and Pastors aide. She was known as Mother Woods by the church community.

Although she was shy, she had boldness when it came to spreading the Word of God. She was an active member of the Interfaith Prayer Fellowship. She faithfully attended weekly prayer meetings, gatherings, and bible study.

On April 25, 2017, surrounded by her devoted daughters, Evanie was called home.

Evanie was preceded in death by her mother Edith Gray; her father Clarence Kirklin; sister Martha Stenson; brother Clarence Gray; and brother-in-law Albert McMahon, Jr.

She leaves to cherish her memory; three daughters Tracy Woods-Melvin, Rene Woods, and Roberta Woods of San Diego, CA; six grandchildren Chanda Unique Melvin, Cortez Melvin, Jr., Chaniqua (Demion) Lewis, Kevin Cooper Jr., DeAndrea Woods and Erica Simpson; four great-grandchildren Demion Lewis, Jr., Jaelyn Lewis, Natalie Cooper, and Masai Cooper; two sisters Anna McMahon and Joann (Samuel) Ross of Oberlin, LA; brother-in-law, George Stenson of Elton, LA, and a host of friends and relatives.
