October 5, 1920 - February 21, 2014 On February 21st, 2014 (her very special grandson's birthday), the Lord called Marion Elizabeth Murphy home to rest. She was 93 years old. Marion "Momma", as she was affectionately called by all who knew her, was born on October 5, 1920 to Charley and Claudia Foster in New York City, New York. She was an only child. "Momma" was raised and attended school in Newport News, Virginia. "Momma" loved to dance, sing and sew, and was very good at doing all three of them. She accepted Christ at an early age and although she loved every worship house, she was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church. "Momma" was a true soldier for the Lord and was loved by all she came in contact with. On December 25th, 1953, Marion Elizabeth Foster was joined in holy matrimony to Joseph Murphy in San Diego, California. They were happily married until the demise of her husband. From this union there were four children, three daughters and one son. "Momma" was always very kind and loving. She loved her family unconditionally and shared this love in her work as an LVN Nurse at Balboa Naval Hospital. She loved supporting all her children and grandchildren in school activities and all they did. "Momma" was a member of the Eastern Star in her younger days, and loved to pull the handle on a slot machine, "ching-ching". Marion "Momma" Elizabeth Murphy leaves to cherish her memories, daughter JoAnn Murphy-Thomas (Mckinley), of San Diego, California, daughter Sondra Ann Murphy-Scott (Tony) of Miami Florida and Ronald Talton of Long Beach, California. Preceding her in death were her father and mother, three aunts and three uncles, one cousin, three daughters, Jacqueline Foster, Ruthie Kinney, and Lavonne Gibbs, two sons, Enrick Jasper, and Joseph David Murphy, two granddaughters Stephanie and Michelle Gibbs, one grandson Rodney Gibbs and one great grandson Aaray Daniels. "Momma" also leaves to cherish her memories 20 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren, and 22 great-great grandchildren, and a host of other family and friends. Sleep on "Momma", take your rest, we all love you but God loves you best.
