December 4, 1955 - December 28, 2013 Nadine O'Neal Givens was born in Rosebud, Texas on December 4, 1955 to Earnest J. O'Neal and Erma Lee Pittman. Nadine was raised however, by her mother and James Moore Sr. (who was affectionately known as "Pop"), all of whom preceded her in death. Nadine was the fourth of five children, sisters Erma Jean, Mae Sue, Marilyn Ann, and brother James Jr. At the tender age of four, Nadine's family relocated to San Diego, California where they joined Calvary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Dr. S.M. Lockridge. Nadine attended Logan Elementary School, O'Farrell Junior High School and attended Crawford High School when she met and married the "boy next door," John Marion Givens III on December 16, 1972. They were joined in marriage 41 years. To this union two daughters and one son was born, Latasha Marie, Aiesha Nicole and John M. Givens IV affectionately known as "Johnny." In 1978 Nadine was baptized in the name of Jesus Christ at The Lily of the Valley Church under the pastorate of Elder Joseph R. Hall. She was filled with the Holy Ghost shortly thereafter. Before being called into ministry with her husband John M. Givens III, they attended Christ Temple Church under the watch care of Bishop Donnie McGriff. In January of nineteen hundred and ninety one, the first service of Light of The World Christian Church took place in the living room of the home of John and Nadine Givens. Life had a new meaning for Nadine as God called her to service. She was an exceptional sister, mother, wife, friend and First Lady. She genuinely cared and had a heart for the people of God. She made them feel loved and accepted, was involved in their lives and was a confidant, mother figure and source of strength for many. She was dedicated to being everything to everybody and whatever they needed. She was also a peacemaker and represented well the passage in Matthew 5:9 "Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God." Nadine always had an encouraging word to share with others be it through phone calls or written cards and notes. She loved to laugh and had an infectious smile that could warm your heart and light up a room. Above all Nadine was a worshipper. She had a praise on her lips and a psalm of thanks giving in her soul. Her favorite scripture expresses this sentiment in Psalm 100:1-3 ":Make a joyful shout to the Lord, all you lands! Serve the LORD with gladness; Come before his presence with singing. Know that the LORD, He is God; It is He who has made us, and not we ourselves; We are His people and the sheep of His pasture." Nadine will be remembered as a homemaker and domestic engineer extraordinaire who went over and beyond for her children and her family. She operated a daycare, cared for foster children, and was a caregiver for her mother. She was given to hospitality and had an eye for interior design. She was an excellent cook, an impeccable dresser and a very well put together woman. She was a true lady! Elect Lady Nadine O'Neal Givens was called home to rest on Saturday, December 28, 2013 with her children, family, and loved ones by her side and with God on her mind. In her final moments she was praising God and worshipping even to the last breath. She will be cherished by her husband John M. Givens III, two daughters - Latasha Marie Daniel (Titus), Aiesha Nicole Williams (Jarren), son John M. Givens IV "Johnny," four grandchildren - Maliah Daniel, Aliyah Marie Williams, Jarren Jerome Williams II, Amaya Nicole Williams; sisters - Erma Jean Goodman, Mae Sue Hultz (Maurice), Marilyn Ann Johnson and brother James Moore Jr. (Gloria), five sister - in-laws - LaVonna Jean Bowdan (Alfred) Anita Smith, Betty Navies, Adrienne Nears (Kenneth), Kathy Johnson (Timothy), one brother-in-law Jimmy Givens and a host of nieces, nephews, loved ones, family friends and saints.
