Funeral services for Betty Pompe will be Monday, June 22, 2020, at 10:30 AM at Lotts Creek Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Lone Rock, with Pastor Duane Meisner officiating. Interment immediately following in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery. Due to current restrictions, the service will be private, immediate family members only. We are planning a Celebration of Life once restrictions are lifted.
Betty Lou Pompe was born March 3, 1926, in Estherville, Iowa, to Arlie and Frances (Carson) Mills of Graettinger, IA. She attended elementary and high school in Graettinger and graduated from Graettinger High School in 1943. She continued her education at the Iowa State Teachers College and taught at various elementary schools in rural Emmet and Palo Alto counties.
On June 2, 1951, she married Leonard F. Pompe. The couple farmed in Lotts Creek township for many years before moving into Whittemore upon retirement. She and Lenny enjoyed spending parts of the winter in Gulf Shores, Alabama, after retirement. During heryears on the farm she was active in Ladies Aid at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Lotts Creek; a member of the Jolly Neighbors Club; and a 4-H leader for the Fenton Forwards. She was also an Avon representative for many years. After raising her family, Betty returned to teaching at Sentral of Fenton and at St. Paul/ Immanuel Lutheran School in Whittemore. She enjoyed gardening, collecting spoons during vacation travels, playing cards and visiting with many relatives,friends and neighbors. She was a loving mom, grandma and great-grandma.
Betty L. Pompe, age 94, formerly of Whittemore, Iowa, died peacefully June 13, 2020, at P.A. Peterson at the Citadel Care Center in Rockford, IL.
Betty is survived by her children: Diana (Thomas "Tommy") Fischer of Germantown, TN, Theodore "Ted" (Barbara) Pompe of Belvidere, IL, Jean (Ted) Waltman of Lakewood, CO, John "Jack" (Lois) Pompe of Slater, IA, and James "Jim"(Carol) Pompe of Ventura, CA; seven grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and seven brothers and three sisters.
