Mary Jane "Janie" Whited was born in the microscopic town of Elmo, Missouri to Mary and Harold Whited on April 23, 1956. Janie passed away in Seattle on March 7, 2019. She was the youngest of five siblings Jo of Broomfield, Colorado, and her brothers Jack of Castlerock, Colorado and Ben of Yukon, Oklahoma. Her sister Beth preceded her in death.
Janie like to say she had been an artist since birth. Her abundant and ethereal birds and trees populating her paintings and drawings could transport the viewer into a different world of natural laws. A place unexpectedly beautiful and calming. Often healing.
She was big on healing, and had a lot of practice in the second part of her life. A head injury, esophageal cancer, water on the lungs and a hole in her aorta, to name a few. It was her strength of spirit and her love of life that carried her through, and these are what we remember of her. That, and her prodigious talent, whether painting, woodworking, playing drums or horn.
Janie's joy was infectious and brought happiness to all she met.
Go in peace, Babygirl, we love you.

"What's up friends, good post and fastidious urging commented here, I am genuinely enjoying by these."
"Janie-Bob I still miss you everyday. you were my bestest friend for forty years. Everywhere I look in my house I see you, in your art, in your wood carvings, (including your blackout game we played for years!), in your customized music tapes and CDs, in your t-shirts, in our pictures from Michigan Womyns Fest. We had some great road trips and sailing trips and we danced all night for many many years. You taught all of us to enjoy music therapy, even if we could not play...you gave me my coronet...which I still "play". I miss our art therapy sessions too. You were my best soul mate, my best bud and I cannot delete your phone number...just wish I had saved the Happy Birthday trumpet solo you played for me every year. I love you and miss you and thank you for being in my life. East Coast Hane"
"Jo, Jack, and Ben, Our hearts and prayers have been with you. We had the privilege of meeting Janie and spending time visiting with her. She was a lovely and so talented person. We are so sorry for your loss and we continue with our thoughts and prayers. Love, Ed and Carol"
"We had several of her artworks in our home. Her art was very special to me, and was unlike any art we had. It sounds like she fought a good fight and that makes a lot of sense in who she was. All those who were close to her loved her so. RIP, Janie, and thank you for the memories we have in your artistry. Blessed Be."
"Rest in Peace, Janie."
"Heartfelt sympathy, she was one of a kind."
"Beautiful tribute to her. I didn't get to see her often but when we did it was always fun , never saw her in a bad mood. Even though I knew she carried a heavy load physicaly and emotionaly, she never let it show. Being just 4 years older, we hung around some when we were younger and when my sis and I went to Elmo to visit the COUSINS. Thank you for being her extended family and taking care of her. I can tell she was truly blessed to know you all."
"She will be missed by many."
"Love you a lot Cousin. Enjoy painting in heaven. See you again."
