James "Jake" or "Jim" Woodrow Pettit, the son of Woodrow "Puggy" and Margaret "Bett" Pettit was born on June 20, 1938, in Lone Rock. Jake attended Lone Rock school, graduating in 1956. He was never married.

Following graduation, he worked building elevators, driving truck, and did road construction. On October 17, 1961, he was drafted into the United States Army and was honorably discharged on October 16, 1963. He then returned to the Lone Rock area and did worked road construction again. He moved to Sioux City and worked for Delbert Ulrich and his son Larry building houses. He proudly built most of the main floor of Wayne, Peggy, and Barry's house including drawing the blueprints for the kitchen cabinets and designing and building the gazebo. When his mom became ill with cancer, Jake along with his brothers Beeler and Roscoe quit work to care for the last three months of her life. His last job prior to retirement was working at A.O. Processors in Whittemore, a job he took following his dad's stroke which allowed him to help care for his father also.

Jake loved to play the horses and the dogs and gamble! He also loved playing cards and most of all visiting with anyone...there was never a place he would go that he didn't know someone.

James W. Pettit suffered a massive heart attack on April 18, 2020, and passed away on Thursday, May 14, 2020 at the University of Minnesota Hospital in Minneapolis, MN. He was 81.

He is survived by three brothers and two sisters, Argile "Beeler" Pettit of Palmer, AK, Bernard "Butch" Pettit and his wife Margie of Goodyear, AZ, Gail "Susie" Person and her husband John of Lone Rock, Peggy Preston of Fenton, and Richard "Roscoe" Pettit of Lone Rock; and many nieces, nephews, and many other family members and close friends.
