"Sorry for your loss Vickie, Mary Kay and I will keep you and your family in our thoughts and prayers..."
Daniel Robert Patten was born December 15, 1949 in Albert Lea, Minnesota the son of Robert and Louise Patten. He grew up in Albert Lea before moving to Winnebago in high school. Dan started working for his father's roofing company when he was 14 years old. He attended and graduated from Winnebago High School then went on to Buena Vista University.
Dan was united in marriage to Vicki Salic on April 19, 1975 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Winnebago, MN. They raised their family in Winnebago until moving to Algona in 1988 when Dan started Dan Patten Roofing. He owned and operated Dan Patten Roofing until 2017. There are not many flat roofs around the northern Iowa area that he hasn't stepped foot on. Dan enjoyed fishing with his children on Sundays at the river after church, Smith Lake with his grandkids, and trips to Minnesota to Moore's Lodge. Dan liked pheasant hunting with his grandsons, deer hunting, and bear hunting in Canada. He took pride in his large garden that was filled with many tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, radishes, onions, squash, peas, watermelon, carrots, corn, potatoes, and giant pumpkins. Many may have thought there was too much in the garden but he enjoyed sharing the fruits of his labor with family and friends. The highlight of each gardening year was when his grandkids would come and pick out their own giant pumpkin.
Dan died Wednesday, May 13, 2020 at the MercyOne North Iowa Hospice in Mason City. He was 70.
