"Have hope in tomorrow, faith in the everlasting, and take comfort in the love of friends and family. It has probably been a decade since I last spoke with Aubrey but I know he will begreatly missed by those who loved him so dearly. I lost both of my parents last year unexpectedly and my father's passing was due to a traumatic brain injury. Look for the stars in the sky - I believe the stars are openings where our loved ones shine down to let us know they are happy.Aubrey is probably playing a round of golf right now with my Dadtelling jokes. Eddie and Anita, Greg and Tracy, Gary and Teresa....I will be praying for you all during this difficult time.God Bless you all. With Love and Sympathy,Tori Densmore Yearta"

"I had not had the pleasure of knowing Aubrey very long, but in an instant he embraced you as if you had always been part of his circle of friends. Aubrey was a colorful character, from an easier and simpler era that is quickly and sadly disappearing. The many stories of his younger years, that preceded him, could have easily been out of a Mark Twain novel, yet you knew he had grown to become a man of many facets. His love of his roots was obvious; he was content with who he was and where he came from. His love of his friends and family was expressed easily. He was a man of strong loyalty, dependability, determination and pride. I am certain that in his passing, many who knew and loved him will feel a great void. I often wonder what purpose God has in placing people in our paths, as I believe that whether it is for a short time, or a lifetime, God has his reasons. Aubreys passing has caused me to reflect on our meeting and I feel that Gods plan was in motion. Aubreys untimely and unfortunate death was due to a brain injury, caused by falling off a ladder. I was reminded of my promise to God that I would help others with brain injuries, having survived one myself. I believe our paths crossed to remind me of my commitment. But I also believe that God had an additional purpose which is equally important. In the eight weeks he was in the hospital, I witnessed Aubrey struggle to speak, walk and eventually even stay awake. I watched as every day, without fail, his companion of almost a decade, Vicki Looper, stayed at his side encouraging him, helping him, praying for him and holding him. I have no doubt that Aubrey knew he was loved and it was so apparent when he would only respond to the doctors and nurses when Vicki arrived. His primary doctor said upon Aubreys parting Northside that he only could hope that he was loved by his family as much as Aubrey was loved by Vicki. I was blessed to witness a love story and reminded that God does place angels on earth. Most of the time, we do not recognize them, but they surround us. Hospice is for the angels that help the souls pass between this world and the next with as much comfort and ease as possible. Those that selflessly dedicate themselves to those they love, regardless of the sacrifices, are the angels we take for granted and many times fail to recognize. Vicki has been my friend for many years and I cherish that friendship, but God showed me the Vicki I had not taken the time to see one of his angels. So many have been blessed to have her in their lives and I hope everyone recognizes the great loss she is now experiencing; someone who loves so big also hurts so big. My heart goes out to Aubreys family, friends and his love, Vicki. God speed to you Aubrey Floyd, as you embark on your final journey with our Lord. It was an honor to know you. My prayer is that all who crossed his path in life, honor him with those memories that bring a smile to our face and heart. I am sure he would want to be remembered that way.Vicki is requesting that in lieu of flowers, a donation be made to the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke for the continued research of traumatic brain injury and/or the American Cancer Society, in Memory of Aubrey Holbrook Floyd.
