"I knew Rex way back when I worked at the Bank of Duluth. He was one of our best customers and when Fridays rolled around, we all could set our clocks because come 3:30, in walked Rex, always with a smile on his face and a good joke. He would sit and have coffee with us, and it was the funniest thing because being a bank full of ladies, we fancied flavored coffee. He always called it "sissy coffee" but he choked it down somehow! Two things I know about Rex...he lived and breathed for Lavonne, and he was an angel walking around masquerading as a human being. News of his passing hit hard and it is not hard to imagine how sadly he will be missed. To Lavonne and his grandbabies, and everyone else who loved him, God Bless You all and be with you as you mourn, remember, and love.If he was in pain, our Father had relieved him and it helps to know that at least. I am glad I was lucky enough to know him.Anonymous"

"Some of my childhood memories are going to the Frosty Bar and especially the Suwanee Grill. When I worked at Scientific Atlanta I would stop and get us biscuits he also had a smile on his face and he would say hello sister. I also remember he had a goat and when he got off the school bus and the goat saw him it sounded like we would say Rex-------------. Uncle Rex was a mess. He was loved by alot of people and touch alot of hearts over the years. When Uncle Dock remarried about 1year and half ago we where down at Aunt Edna and he ask Uncle Dock if he could dance with his new sister-in-law and he took her hand and out on the driveway they went it was so funny.I also will cherish the last couple of times we talk together. He told me how much he enjoyed his Christmas card and the pictures I send. I only wish he had felt like joining us for our Thanksgiving dinner last year. Atleast now hes at piece and he has a new body and is not hurting anymore.Love you, Viola"

"Today we seldom take time to wave and say hello to a friend forget a total stranger. As a kid I remember Rex would wave at every car that he passed. One day someone asked him why and without hesitation he said "I may be broke down on the side of the road one day. That person may see me, remember I waved at them, and stop to help." Of course this was before cell phones. It was 35 plus years ago. Just a few months ago I watched him as he sat and talk with a total stranger as though they had known each other for years. Maybe he had waved at them before. Who knows? In memory of a great uncle, brother, friend put down the cell phone and use that hand to wave to a stranger. You never know when you may see them again."

I also remember no matter what he was doing or how bad it needed to get fixed he always had time to stop and say HEY PETE what can i help you do ? He would fix motorcycle tires and bike chains or whatever ! He would also let us hang out in the shop and explian what he was working on why and how to fix it ! Uncle Rex would always drive me threw the many parades in dunn-buggys and fast cars !! I would sometimes wash dishes at the Suwanee Grill and for pay he would take me to the ROD RUN in Gatlinburg Tennessee where we rode go-carts and cruise the strip looking at cars ! Uncle Rex was for sure a true GEAR HEAD !!! Uncle Rex was a legend at the old go-cart track behind walmart where he was loved by everyone .I will never forget my Uncle Rex .Im sure GOD had a RED FORD TRUCK waiting for him in heaven !!!!!!! To a great uncle !! R.I.P REX"

"For my Big Brother, Rex: These are some of the special memories of you that I will always cherish.- I could never stand for anyone to hurt Rex. Even at the age of 5/6 I remember holding on to my Daddy's back pants pockets when he would go to whip Rex saying "Don't you whip Rex, Don't you whip Rex". - I remember him playing dolls with me.- When we lived at Madison, Georgia, he and I had a grass mowing service. He would tie the lawn mower behind his bike and I would carry the gas and other items in the basket on my bike. He would cut the grass for a while then I would take over and cut a while until we were finished.- Some of my sister Totsie's friends at Madison were playing craps one evening and they let Rex play as well. When he got home he went to see my Mama and started pulling dollars after dollars out of his pants pockets. He was so excited. Boy did my Mama hit the ceiling. She loaded him in the car with my sister and took him back to where they had been playing and made him give the money back but the guys wouldn't take it. They told Mama that he had won it fair and square. Well, I can tell you that "craps playing" was a lot more profitable than the grass mowing service was.- One summer he and I decided we were going to pick cotton for a neighbor. We were sure that we would make all kind of money because we were getting paid by the pound. WELL, do you have any idea how much cotton it takes to make a POUND!!! - As you all know Rex was always working on something (car, motorcycle, whatever) but if he wasn't sure if he had enough gas or if the car was going to run right, he would say "Hey, Babe wanna go for a ride". Not that he wanted my company so much but he didn't want to have to walk back by himself if the car died on him.-Rex was held back a year in high school which then of course meant he and I were in some of the same classes. I remember an instance in algebra class when our teacher Don Herndon put a problem on the chalk board and asked for someone to come up and solve it. Well Rex walks to the front of the room, solved the problem, smiled and turned around and went back to his seat. Mr. Herndon asked "Rex, what are you doing in my class again?" Rex's reply was " I just got lazy the last half of the year".- There was this cool guy at school that all the girls wanted to date. Finally he asks me out. When I got home from school I was so excited I told Rex and Mama about it. Rex looks at me and says "You are not going out with him and I will tell him tomorrow you are not going". I am thinking Rex have you lost your mind. But in the end I realized he knew more than I did and he was only protecting me.- My first trip to Las Vegas was with Rex. Rex, Billy, Steve and I went. At that time the casinos was laid out with carrosels of slot machines. Rex was playing a carrosel which had about 10-12 machines on it. He would drop in the coins, pull the lever and move on to the next machine before he even saw what the machine hit. One man came up to play one of the machines and the hostest told him the whole carrosel was reserved for Rex.- When my son, Steve, was small Rex would always show up on Christmas morning to see what Steve had gotten and to play with all the toys. Uncle Rex was very special to him. Rex would also show up at Judy and Totsie's houses as well.-I remember working at the Suwanee Grill with Rex and Judy. When I customer would pull into the parking lot, Rex automatically starting cooking their order,. When they finally got into the grill their food was ready for them. - There was a station next door to the Grill called the One Stop. A really nice guy worked there and I wanted to go out with him. So Rex goes over and tells him that he knows someone who would like to go out with him. That nice guy and I will celebrate our 46th Wedding Anniversary this year.I love you Rex. I will be looking toward the Heavens talking to you from now on and I know God has an interpreter to make sure you get the message. Your Baby Sister, Joyce"

"Memories of my Baby Brother Rex:- Rex, Bill, Joyce and me playing in the woods as children and building tree huts.- Joyce and I used to have to go and stand at the bathroom door for him to go to the bathroom because he was scared to go by himself.- When we lived at Madison, Georgia some of Totsie's friends gave him some whiskey and he was riding his bicycle around and around a street light pole. Boy was our Mom really mad.- When he wanted you to do something for him, he would always say "Hey Babe or Hon" so you would know he wanted something.- I enjoyed the time I spent taking him to the docyor, to eat and our talks. He was so excited when I took him up to see Addie Grace, Ashely, Paige, Adam and Granny Linda. He really enjoyed it. He always asked about Danny, Sherri and my kids and he always told me to tell them Hey and that he love them.- He like to go to Joy's Restaurant to eat. One Sunday he had me call Totsie, Edna to go over and eat so we all did.- He and I went to see Addie Grace one time and he took here a piano toy that Danny had given to Alan. We also took a tricycle that Joyce had sent her. Addie Grace was scared of the tricycle so Rex sit on it and showed her how to ride it. He was 66 years old riding a tricycle.- In 1988 Rex, Totsie and I went to Las Vegas. John would not go with us because he did not want to fly so he gave me a $100 to play for him. On our last night there we played this machine Rex called "Big Bertha". We did not win anything but we had such a good time everybody that came by thought we were drunk but none of us were drinking. We were enjoying spending John's money.- I am going to miss my Baby Brother's phone calls because he would call me everyday and some days he could not talk long because of his breathing problems or was just having a bad day. He would always say "I love you Sister and to be careful". I would always tell him that I loved him. I know Rex is in heaven with Mama, Daddy, Hubert, Bill and Totsie and they are all having a good time. Rex will be missed but he no longer has to hurt. I Love you Brother, Your Sister Judy."

"Dad, there is so much I want to say. First of all you took care of me when I was growing up, you made sure I had everything I wanted or needed. You were always there and stood beside me even if I was wrong. I am so glad that I got to return the favor by taking care of you these last few years, I would not trade the memories for anything in the world. It was always me and you and then here came little Rex in which you were so proud of. Then two years and two months later along came Alan, they were like the boys you never had. You were such a great papa, they were your world. The years we all shared together was the greatest years of all. You will be missed more than you ever know. I love you. - Lavonne"

"Papa, you were really great to me. You lived with me as long as I can remember. You were really like a parent to me, You always watched after me. You were there when I needed you. I remember that you'd always ask me if I needed something to eat, I even remember when you were well you'd take me and Alan out to eat a lot, again I just appreciate how much you looked after me. I remember back when we'd work for you and you'd give us money for it. I also recall you taking us on vacations like up to the camper and other places. You'd do your best to make us happy. I just appreciate everything you did for us. You helped me and Alan grow up. You'd make us crack up and laugh and just have us happy. You were even a great person to our friends. Always hanging around us and joking around. I'd just like to say they love you too. I miss you a lot. Things are already really different without you here. I just wish I'd have been around you more these last few weeks. But over all I have to say, you helped with mom and dad to give me a great childhood. These will be the best years of my life, thanks to you grandpa. It's hard to beleive just last week you were out working on stuff in the shop in the backyard, just knowing till your last days you were still working hard inspires me. I thank you again for always watching after me. You really were a excellent man, papa.I love you gramps, and thank you.~Little Rex."

"Uncle Rex , I can see him in his shop in the backyard over in Shakerag from years back. I can see him at the go-cart race track in Cumming fixin something that had broken. I can see him with the halo neck brace with screws going into his head, from the wreck he was in while in the national guard. I can see him standing at the Suwanee Grill flipin hamburgers for his many customers that he so enjoyed. Then I can see him at the shop in our backyard working on Daddy's loader , or the dump truck, or what ever needed to be worked on. I can see him driving the RED Ford truck that he put so many hours into making it his Hot-Rod !! Most of all I can see him with that Rex Pittman smile, saying " W H A T " or Hey Sister Motor Mouth that's what he called me and I enjoyed IT !! I will miss YOU uncle Rex, Love ,Sister Motor Mouth Wanda"
