Etta Yvonne Wheeler, age 84, went home to be with the Lord on May 6, 2020. Etta was born in Cosby, Tennessee. She married her husband James on May 29, 1952, a marriage of almost 68 years.
She lived most of her life in West Virginia and was a resident in the town of Rainelle with her husband James, until the flood in 2016. Then they moved to Florida to live with their daughter Jamie and son-in-law John.
She loved reading her King James Bible and had been faithful attending church. Even though she never learned to drive she got to travel. Between 2003 and 2017, she traveled with her daughters Debra and Jamie and saw the Rocky Mountains, rode up to the top of Pikes Peak in Colorado on the Cog Train, Mt. Rushmore National Monument, Yellowstone National Park, Grand Teton National Park, Mt. McKinley in Alaska, the Trans-Alaska Pipeline that her husband James worked on, and the Grand Canyon in Arizona.
The Lord Jesus saved her soul in 2004 and was baptized by pastor Jerry Bloxton at Trinity Baptist Church in Inverness, Florida.
In 2018 she and James lived at Bridgewater Park Health and Rehabilitation. She enjoyed the people, participating in the activities, and reading her books, especially her Bible. A lot of the staff came to visit her on her last day. She was loved. She died peaceably in her room with her husband and Jamie. She will be remembered for her gentle and quiet spirit.
Etta was preceded in death by her mother Sylvia Barnes, father Earl Barnes, aunt Dovie Pennington, and her daughter Susan Wheeler Chapman.
Etta is survived by her husband James Wheeler, daughter Debra and son-in-law Christopher Martinez, daughter Jamie and son-in-law John Sligh, step-daughter Thelma Kinstler, brother Bill and sister-in-law June Barnes, sister-in-law Marie Spangler, uncle Eddie King, grandson Justin and granddaughter-in-law Breana Sligh, and great-grandson Sylar Sligh.
The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 13, 2020, at 2:00 pm at Roberts of Ocala Downtown Chapel. Interment will immediately follow at the Anthony Cemetery.
