Leonardo Malabanan Alonzo, 79, passed away April 26, 2019, at his home in La Mirada, California, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on November 22, 1939, in Cavite City, Philippines, to Adriano R. and Maria (Malabanan) Alonzo, he was the 8th child of 10. Leonardo grew up and went to school in the Philippines; his education culminated with a Bachelors degree from Manuel L. Quezon University.
Ding, as he was affectionately known, married Rosalinda Cadalin in the Philippines. Though they eventually separated, they were blessed with nine children: Cynthia Marie, Edward, Maialyn, Mia Liezel, Leonardo Jr., Roseline, Alarice Ann, Beverly Ann, and Alfred.
Professionally, Leonardo spent many years with the Social Security Administration in the Philippines. However, in 1986 he and his children immigrated to La Mirada, California, and Leonardo took a position as a mail carrier with the United States Postal Service. He retired in 2003.
Leonardo chose to return home to Cavite City, Philippines, following his retirement. There he enjoys the company of his son, Edward, and Edwards family. He has also maintained his home in La Mirada. This allows him to return to visit his many children and grandchildren who live in the States.
A devout Catholic, Ding attended San Roque Parish Church in Cavite City, and Beatitudes of Our Lord Church in La Mirada. He instilled the strong value of faith in his children.
Ding greatly enjoyed spending time in the Philippines, watching Jeopardy, and going to the horse races and the casinos. However, he enjoyed nothing more than spending time with his children and grandchildren, as well as his extended family. Family always came first for him, and he loved his family very much. Ding was also greatly loved by them.
Leonardo is survived by his nine children, Cynthia Marie (Jon) Alotis, Edward Alonzo, Maialyn Alonzo, Mia Liezel (Davidson) Lao, Leonardo Alonzo Jr., Roseline Alonzo (Garrick) Le, Alarice Ann (Marvin Nagal) Alonzo, Beverly Ann (Rusell Pecson) Alonzo, and Alfred Alonzo; former daughter-in-law, Angelina Sanchez; grandchildren, Josephine Arielle (Hector Zepeda) Alonzo Lura, Christopher Alonzo Helou, Jonathan Daniel (Bekah) Lao, Jasmine Rose (Jordan Agbulos) Lao, Janelle Grace Lao, Jennalyn Sanchez Alonzo, Leonardo Sanchez Alonzo, Terrinda Sanchez Alonzo, Julia Marie Le, Mia Rose Le, Aspen Ariel Alonzo Alotis, Deandra Nicole Alonzo, Xian Hezekiah Pecson Alonzo; siblings, Felisa Alonzo, Alfonso (Angelina) Alonzo, and Teresita Ramos; and sister-in-law, Lirio Alonzo.

"Pa, to this day I could still hear your voice and feel your presences here with us. It\'s almost 2 years since we lost you and still can\'t get over it. I wish things went differently, but I\'m thankful to god for having as a father ro-model and someone who knew what sacrifice and love really means to a family. Your right about what what you taught me. Its not what makes a man happy but its about reaching your goal and understanding how you got there. Only you and I know what that means, miss you pa."

I'll always be greatful and thankful to God for having you as a father. Love you pa, forever."
