In loving memory of

Claudio G. Amaya
June 6, 1922 - March 9, 2013

Claudio G. Amaya was born June 6, 1922, in Miami, Arizona, to Ventura G. and Carmen (Miranda) Amaya. He passed away Saturday, March 9, 2013, at his home in Whittier, California, at the age of 90.

Though born in Arizona, Claudio moved with his family to Los Angeles, California at the age of two. He met the love of his life, Beatrice 'Betty' Gonzales, when he was only 8 years old. They dated in high school and were married in Los Angeles on January 18, 1941. Later that year, Claudio was inducted into the US Army Air Corps. He served his country honorably as a Sergeant during World War II from 1941 to 1947. He remained true to his military pride with membership in the American Legion Auxiliary.

Following his military service, Claudio was among the first of hispanics to join the LAPD. He loved what he did. It was more than a job to him....it was a way of life. He was a cop 24 hours a day. In addition to his service as a motorcycle officer, Claudio was also on the LAPD's Motorcycle Drill Team. He and Betty enjoyed the social opportunities of going to events where the drill team would perform. Claudio's public service allowed him to retire at the age of 55, after only 26 years on the force. He was blessed to enjoy many wonderful years of retirement.

Claudio's hobbies included flying, traveling, golf, and bowling. He also greatly enjoyed trips at sea on his friend's yacht. Claudio was also an amazing chef on the barbecue--oak wood of course. He was a great host of barbecue feasts, and his food was always amazing!

Mr. Amaya is survived by his daughter, Cecilia Camacho; sons, Gilbert, Claudio Jr., and Gene Amaya; 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Betty.

Viewing will begin at 6:30pm on Thursday, March 14, 2013, at St. Bruno Church, 15740 Citrustree Rd., Whittier, California. A vigil will immediately follow at 7pm. Mass will be celebrated at 10am the following morning, Friday, March 15th, at St. Brunos with interment at Resurrection Cemetery in Montebello, California.
