James D. (Jim) Garner, Sr., 85, of Cumming, formerly of Marietta, passed away Wednesday, July 19, 2017. Jim was a native of Marietta, graduating from Marietta High School. After graduation, he joined the U.S. Air Force, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. Following his time in service, he attended the University of Georgia and went to work for CIT, General Electric and retired from Textron. Jim was a member of Kennesaw Lodge #33 FAM and Yaarab Shrine. He is preceded in death by his son, Jim Garner, Jr.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Ann Gwin Garner of Cumming; son, Steven Garner of Dallas, GA; daughter, Alicia (Paul) Polley of Woodstock; grandchildren, Lauren Garner, Ryan Polley, Matthew Polley, Davis Polley, Emily Polley, Austin Awtrey, Chase Awtrey; daughter-in-law, Donna Cory of Cumming; brother, Harry (Liz) Garner of Canton; a niece and several nephews.
A funeral mass will be held Saturday, July 22, at 1:30 p.m. at St. Columbas Episcopal Church with The Rev. Fr. Tripp Norris officiating. Inurnment will be Tuesday, July 25, at 12:00 noon at Georgia National Cemetery.
