Dwight Wilson Clark of Cumming, GA (originally San Angelo, TX), husband of 42 years to Pat Clark, as well as long-time firefighter and Fire Chief, went home to be with the Lord on March 29, 2016 at the age of 79. Dwight was born January 21, 1937 to William Glenn Clark (Gingo), a federal firefighter at Goodfellow Air Force Base, and his wife Aleene Elizabeth Wilson Clark ("Mama Lap" or "Libby") in San Angelo, TX. Dwight was the eldest and grew up with his two brothers, Jerry and Gary, and three sisters, Glenda, Carol, and Ann. Dwight became a firefighter at the age of 21. He responded to a kitchen fire not even two hours into his first shift. Since that time, Dwight responded to many fires, wrecks, people in need and tragedies. He eventually became Assistant Chief in San Angelo, TX and on his off days, he also worked at the local hospital as an ER paramedic. He later transferred to Austin, TX and worked there for one year as Fire Chief, before moving to Forsyth, GA (Monroe County). After that time, Dwight accepted a position at the Forsyth County Fire Department and his family ultimately moved to Cumming, GA. He served Forsyth County faithfully for 12 years before retiring in 2013, totaling 54 years in the fire service. Dwight began and was involved in many additional programs, such as Project Baby Save, First Care, Space Makers, TERC, and many more. All of these programs are examples of Dwight's need for safety and care for people and fire fighters. He loved his job and loved helping people. Dwight taught extrication and safety in Mexico, Canada, England, South Africa, Puerto Rico, St. Thomas, and throughout the US including at least 24 states. He judged competitions and has been an expert witness. He was a leading expert in the field of extrication. He wrote for eight international magazines and, for approximately 11 years, he wrote for FireRescue Magazine. Dwight was a Master Mason of Concho Lodge #1260 and a Past Worthy Patron of Concho Chapter 826 Order of the Eastern Star, now affiliated with San Angelo Chapter 10. "May you rest in peace. My condolences to the family. "
"I was sorry to hear of Chief Clark's passing. I enjoyed being in his class many times at GPSTC. He was always happy, positive, and very helpful. I really admired him for his wealth of knowledge, and decades of experience. Chief Clark was a true veteran of the fire service. While I've not seen him for many years, I've never forgotten him. He was honestly my favorite instructor. My thoughts & prayers are with his family. Engineer Benjie Eargle Smyrna Fire Department"
"We were saddened to hear of Dwight's passing but are happy that he is whole again and no longer suffering. Dwight always had a smile and good word to say to others. And we saw the love he had for his family! He will be greatly missed. Or prayers for peace and comfort that only our Father in Heaven can give. We love you!"
"To the family of Chief Clark: Your all in our prayers and we're saddened to hear the news. I had the Chief as an instructor many times while he was at the GPSTC. Great man and we'll miss him. Chief Bruce Satterfield and the Dalton Fire Department."
"My dear sweet Pat: My heart aches for you and your family. Dwight was a real jewel of a man. Mother absolutely loved him. I am sure that she was waiting for him so that they could create a little bit of havoc together. My thoughts and prayers with you all. Love, Vicki Edwards-Hicks"
"My condolences goes out to the family and friends of Dwight Clark. Losing a loved one is never easy. We all want to spend our lives with the ones we love and death gets in the way of that. But what brings me comfort is Acts 24:15 where it says there is going to be a resurrection. So it's reassuring to know that you can see your loved one again. I hope this has comforted you and your family is in my prayers."
"It was an honor, privilege, and joy to get to know Dwight Whenever I saw him, he had a smile on his face, brought light to the room, and made others feel better for having shared a moment with him. I appreciate you guys letting me have a small glimpse into the love you shared as a family. Thank you for being an example of Gods love here on earth. My prayers are with you as he has gone home to see his Heavenly Father."
"Pat, Matt and family, Dwight was such an influential and charismatic man and he made such an impact on my life that words cannot express. Everyone that met him was left with a connection that defies explanation. I feel so blessed to call him my friend and through that connection, you became my friends as well. My heart is heavy with your loss, but we all know that his struggles over the past year have been tremendous and he is now resting in God's presence. Please know that I am always at your disposal and share in your sorrow."
"I had the honor of teaching several classes with Dwight over the years and he will definitely be missed. May he rest in the arms of the Lord forever."
