In loving memory of

Marilyn S. D'Meza
March 17, 1928 - February 18, 2014

Mrs. Marilyn S. D'Meza, age 85 of Cumming, GA passed away on February 18, 2014 after a brief illness. She was born on March 17, 1928 in Englewood, NJ to the late Dr. Louis R. Sprigg and Evelyn S. Sprigg. Marilyn grew up in Montvale, NJ spending summers at her parents' cottage on Long Island. As a young woman, Marilyn's life revolved primarily around education and church where one of her greatest joys was born, that of music. She would enjoy singing in numerous church choirs and community choruses for the balance of her life. Marilyn matriculated at New York University and graduated with a bachelor's degree from the School of Commerce and Accounting. It was on the train, commuting into college where she met her future husband, Jay E. D'Meza. They were married on June 11, 1950. Marilyn and her late husband began their family in New York where Jay built what would be a lifetime career at IBM. That career brought them to Dunwoody, GA in 1973, and they lived there until Jay retired in 1991. Marilyn worked outside the home (part time) in the 1980's at Bell's Craft Store in Dunwoody Village. Many people knew her as "The Bow Lady," and decorating for Christmas was one of her great joys. Marilyn and Jay spent the majority of their retirement years in Bluffton, SC, where they enjoyed life in their home at Sun City Hilton Head. In 2006, they made the decision to return to Georgia as they felt it was time to be closer to family. Jay passed away in 2007, and Marilyn continued to live in their home in Cumming, GA until the end of her life. Marilyn will be remembered as a woman who loved her family, her faith, dogs, and football - a joy fostered by her father in her childhood. She is survived by her daughter, Dr. Jean D'Meza Leuner of Orlando, FL; daughter and son-in-law Debra and Bob Stecher of Canton, GA; son and daugher-in-law Jay E. D'Meza, Jr. and Aimee of Milton, GA; grandchildren Kirstyn J. Leuner, Kyle J. Leuner, Jennifer L. Stecher, Jay E. D'Meza III (T.J.), and Ansley B. D'Meza. She was met at the gates of heaven by her grandson, Jonathan L. Stecher (1981-1999). A Mass of Resurrection will be held at 3:00pm on Sunday, February 23, 2014 at St. Aidan's Episcopal Church, 13560 Cogburn Road, Alpharetta, GA (www.staidans.org). In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to St. Aidan's Episcopal Church. Service DetailsSunday, February 23rd, 2014, 3:00pm, St. Aidan's Episcopal Church

"Great memories My Grandmother was such an inspirational person. I miss her everyday. I always remember that she always would have her walker in the morning and say my name and the way she said my name it just was so special and it made me feel loved and special. Whenever she stayed at my house and I'd pull out something to eat she'd say "oooh what is that" and I would reply "Oreos do you want some" and her famous reply was "Just a taste". Grandma if you ever see this in heaven thank you for being amazing. I will always remember our deal. I love you and miss you and Papa.    Ansley <3"

"Swimming Lessons On Lyncrest AvenueI grew up on Kenwood Lane in the greatest neighborhood in New City. I remember your dog Tor and your mother gave me swimming lessons in your pool on Lyncrest. To this day I am an excellent swimmer and scuba diver because of the good start your mother gave me in the pool."
