In loving memory of

Chance Hobson
May 16, 1976 - February 25, 2012

Chance Hobson, age 35, of Gainesville, GA, passed away Saturday, February 25, 2012. He was born in Connecticut on May 16, 1976 to Wendell and Robin Hobson and grew up on a farm in the Connecticut countryside and with family in California. He graduated from Germantown High School, Germantown, TN and from Purdue University in 1999 in the College of Engineering as a Mechanical Engineer. At Purdue he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon where he was Vice President of the Fraternity. Known for his quick wit and playful demeanor, Chance enjoyed living life in North Georgia. He had received his private pilot's license and enjoyed his boat with family and friends on Lake Lanier. You could often find him on a summer evening wake-boarding across the lake, where he also found great peace. After working for several large firms, including Siemens Energy and Automation, he enjoyed his career at MESH Engineering in Cumming, as a mechanical engineer, where he shared many important friendships. This season, Chance began coaching the U-13 team for the North Forsyth Lacrosse Association and looked forward to sharing his years of Lacrosse experience from high school and college with local teenagers. Chance is survived by his mother, Robin Hobson; father, Wendell Hobson; sister, Karri Hobson-Pape and brother-in-law, Pierce Pape. He was a wonderful uncle to Parker and Sierra Pape who loved him dearly and always looked forward to his playful jokes. In lieu of flowers, those that wish may make contributions to the North Forsyth Lacrosse Association (NFYLA) Chance Hobson Memorial Fund at: 2659 Freedom Parkway #113, Cumming, GA 30041. Ingram Funeral Home & Crematory, Cumming, Georgia is in charge of arrangements.

"Chance... a search for you on Google in hopes of finding out where you are and what you've got going on brings me to this. I'm unable to voice the amount of sorrow I feel. My life definitely took a different direction having roomed with you freshman year - something you insisted on, if you'll remember. Thank you for opening my eyes and for being so alive and such an instigator and a hooligan and my best friend. Your laugh was so annoyingly funny and I still can't stand the Grateful Dead - except for Touch of Grey. Thanks for letting me play it ad nauseam. Seeing Joyce's and Rya's names in here remind me of the fantastic times we all had, the lives you touched and the indelible memories we have of you. I guess we missed the opportunity to reconnect..."

"I am so grateful that I had the opportunity to reconnect with Chance this past year. After all this time, we ended up living two hours away from each other, outside of Atlanta. I am reminded of the great times we had at Purdue, Grateful Dead shows and Graceland. Thank you for the wonderful memories. Rya"

"Dear Chance, I am shocked to hear of your passing. I have not spoken to you since college, but have so many memories of you. I remember meeting you within the first week of being a freshman at Purdue. Your laugh and zest for life were always something I can never forget. You always put a smile on the face of everyone you came across. May you rest in peace and live forever in the Kingdom of God. Greg C."

"A Chance MeetingMy brother is married to Chance's sister, Karri, whom everyone in my family loves dearly, as we love Sierra and Parker, my niece and nephew. I only had the pleasure to meet Chance once. We went to the Aquarium together in Atlanta when I was there for a visit. I remember a kind and extremely intelligent person, however, whom I looked forward to getting to know better over time. Life went on and that 'over time' never came to be, but my "Chance" meeting left me knowing that we could have become good friends. I am told just how helpful and giving Chance was and I have no doubt of that at all. I wish him peace, as I wish it for Karri, her Mom Robin and the rest of the family. I wish you all strength as well during this difficult time. Here's to the 'chance' we all have to make a difference in this world. Let's not waste it. Paul Pape"
