In loving memory of

Brian Hugh Farrell
January 13, 1962 - April 19, 2020

My good looking little brother Brian was born Jan 13, 1962. 3rd child of Max and Nell Farrell. Brenda and Carol are his older sisters. He was also uncle Brian to Brenda and Clays kids Tom, Victor and Kris and great uncle Brian to Kris's kids Katelyn, Ellie and Wyatt.

Brian was in the Navy as a crew member on the USS Doyle FFG Homeported at Mayport, Florida from 1983 - 1987. He maintained the electronic equipment on the ships helicopter. He spoke of his time there often over the years, and I think he loved his time in the Navy, especially all the travel around the world. His favorite memory I think is of a middle of the night chance meeting in the eastern Mediterranean Sea when his brother-in-law Clay, a now retired marine Lt. Colonel, contacted him from the USS Austin LPD-4 passing the USS Doyle in the night. This was done via signaling from the deck by flashing light. He had to be woken up by his stunned crewmates or company commander to go to the deck for the message. It was an incredible memory for him. This was in 1985. He was also proud of being selected to design his company's flag.

His Navy tenure allowed him to see a lot of the world from Romania to Sicily. He particularly loved Sicily and always wanted us to visit there. I hope we do. He was lucky enough to be parked in Sicily for a month with time to enjoy the culture. He loved the ruins and beauty and cheese rolls sold at a bakery near where they were staying in Sicily, and he became friends with the owners. They also had cute daughters.

Brian was a chess whiz, loved and knew military history, and shared my love for hot wings.I will never forget watching a very large bead of sweat grow from the top of his head before cascading down over his immediately red face when he ordered "nuclear" wings when we first lived in Austin. We have lived in the same 2 cities as Brian, Columbus Ohio and Austin Texas, so we enjoyed lots of ribs, wings, chicken fried stuff, lasagna and generally fattening food with Brian over the years. He could make a mean lasagna. He gave us some of our most useful kitchen ware, a gigantic iron pan, a Dutch oven, a very cool antique fan. He was one of the least materialistic persons I knew, and once told me that he wished he had lived in a time he could just hunt and fish. He did love cars though and had a beautiful couple of old cars over the years, one an old 55 Chevy I think, and a beautiful old Mercedes. And he loved his new car.

He wanted to buy a mobile home and move somewhere a bit farther out from Austin. I wish he could have done that.

Our parents moved to Texas in 1995 and Brian moved here a year or so later. We had lots of great holidays, dinners, outings, shows, movies. It was nice having family here.

I think we may have seen some of the best music in the world with Brian. We went to see George Clinton and his extended music family show here in Austin, and finally had to leave around 3am. It was amazing though. We saw some great shows over the years.

Brian got to work for a company that set up grocery stores all over the southwest area, and he got to see Utah and Texas traveling around. Brian worked hard and could do unbelievable things with a forklift. He could be pretty funny too.

I'm going to miss my brother. Rest in peace Brian, hope you get to see your ancestor Simeon P. Boone and civil war soldier that you look just like.
