Mae June Nichols was born on June 10, 1930 in Forman, North Dakota to Mabel Tweto Olsen and Adolph Olsen. Loving the hot desert air, Mae June moved to Phoenix, Arizona and made it her home for 60+ years. Married to Leonard Nichols in 1953, she was active in both of her daughters Girl Scout troops making lifelong friends from her scouting days. A group of those scouts continued to meet monthly for lunch with her over the years. Several considered her to be a "second Mom" as well as a friend. As a mother, Mae June made sure we had everything we needed and quite a lot of what we wanted growing up. In her later years, Mae June enjoyed a special and loving relationship with Hal Evenson. An accomplished seamstress, crafter and professional cake decorator, Mae June Nichols is survived by her daughters: Dr. Linda Gaye Tweto-Johnson, Vicki Lynn Nichols Szaszvari, her son-in-law George Szaszvari, and many nieces, nephews and grand-nieces and grand-nephews. She will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, and her willingness to be the first to "step up to the plate" for friends and family in need. In lieu of flowers, Mae June requested donations be made to the Arizona Cactus-Pine Girl Scout Council for campership or donations to Hospice of the Valley.

"Some of my favorite memories of Mae were Going to visit her in Arizona with my Mother, Dagny. I loved to roam around her property collecting rocks, and saying hello to the chickens. Apparently I got so attached to the chickens that when chicken was served for dinner I refused to eat it until I could go count the chickens out in the coup to make sure they were all there.
Mae was my mother?s best friend for 74 years, she was a fiercely loyal friend, and kept a secret for my mom that many others couldn?t have. I?m glad that I got to re-connect with her and that she got to see my daughter, and through her, I was able to confirm I had a sister I never knew about. She will be missed, but she left us Linda, and for that I am very thankful. RIP Mae June xoxo"

"So sorry to hear of your mom's death. She was a best friend during our high school years and we kept in touch after she moved to Arizona. I remember some great times with her in Forman and enjoyed a few times when she came to see me in Minneapolis. I will always be grateful for her friendship."
