Elmer J. Everson, 92, of Marquette, died peacefully Thursday morning, January 2, 2020 at the Marquette County Medical Care Facility in Ishpeming while under the care of Lake Superior Life Care & Hospice.
He was born March 14, 1927 in LAnse, a son of the late Elmer O. and Dorothy M. (Smith) Everson and was a 1945 graduate of LAnse High School.
Elmer served in the US Navy and was a WWII veteran.
He married Caroline Cis I. Selden on June 26, 1948 at the Sacred Heart Church in LAnse and she preceded him in death on February 9, 2012. The couple was married 63 years.
Elmer was employed for 30 years at WLUC TV6 in sales. He then worked for WJMN TV3 out of Marquette and Escanaba as a sales manager for another six years.
He was a member of St. Christopher Catholic Church and American Legion Post #44. He was an avid Green Bay Packer fan and attended games for many years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, fix-it projects, woodworking, spending time at camp, snowmobiling, traveling and most recently painting.
He is survived by four children, Therese (David) Parsons of Charlevoix, MI, Richard (Roberta) Everson of St. Louis, MO, Daniel (Trish) Everson of Marquette and Sheryl (Ike) Dyksterhouse of Sheboygan, WI; 12 grandchildren, Maria (David) Bouslough, Katie (Chris) Untalan, Bradley Parsons, Amber Munday, Ben (Michelle) Everson, Nick (Leslie) Everson, Jeff Everson, Rebecca (Andrew) Johnson, Alysha (Chad) Wiesner, Matthew, Danielle and Jessica Dyksterhouse; great-grandchildren, Sophia, Joseph, Safia, Lio, Gabriel, Giulia, Max, McKenzie, Edie, Harrison, George and August; sister, Carol LeClaire, of LAnse; and several nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Caroline; brothers, Ralph, Ronald & Robert Everson; sister, Betty Pukall; a grandson, Dustin Parsons; and a granddaughter-in-law, Kaneidra.
The family greatly appreciates the wonderful care received from Mill Creek Senior Living Community, Lake Superior Life Care & Hospice, Marquette County Medical Care Facility and Parallel Home Care Services.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 11, 2020 at 2:30 p.m. at the Canale-Tonella Funeral Home with Rev. Gregory Heikkala officiating. Visitation will be held from 1 p.m. until the time of the service in the funeral home. Spring burial will take place in the LAnse Evergreen Cemetery.
Mr. Eversons grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.
