Albert Heinz, 91, of Gwinn, formerly of Lombard, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 26, 2017 at the D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans surrounded by his loving family and under the care of Lake Superior Hospice.
Albert was born on May 28, 1926 in Burlington, Wisconsin, to the late Conrad and Mary Heinz. He proudly served his country with the U.S. Marines during World War II and participated in an Honor Flight on September 18, 2013.
On June 12, 1954, Al was married to the former Marian Semmens in Chicago, Illinois and together they enjoyed 52 years of marriage and raising their family.
Al ran his own heating and air conditioning business in Lombard until 1978 when he moved to Gwinn where he continued to work in the same field until his retirement in 1989.
Guitar was Al’s passion. He played guitar for many years with other fellow musicians at Jack’s Hideaway in Gwinn. He also played in several small bands and gave guitar lessons to many who shared the same passion.
In his free time, Al enjoyed meeting with friends for morning coffee. He and his wife enjoyed hosting annual family reunions at their lake house. His greatest pride however, was his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Survivors include four children, Rita McGuire of Gwinn, Tim (Diana) Heinz of Memphis, TN, Roberta “Bobbi” (Bill) Coley and Cherri Heinz, both of Lombard, IL; one brother, David (Bernice) Heinz of Melrose Park, IL; a brother-in-law, William (Marge) Semmens of Peoria, IL; six grandchildren, Benjamin (Kim) Coley, Courtney McGuire, Amber (Justin) McGuire, Robert Heinz, Shawna Coley and Jaime Coley; two great grandchildren, Anessa McGuire and Isabella Coley; also surviving are many nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death besides his parents was his wife, Marian, on September 20, 2006; a son-in-law, Michael McGuire; also 9 sisters and 6 brothers.
Friends may call at the Canale-Gwinn Funeral Home on Monday beginning at 2 p.m. until the time of the memorial service at 3 p.m. with Michele Napier, chaplain of Lake Superior Hospice officiating. A light lunch will be served immediately following the service in the funeral home. Burial will take place in the Gwinn Cemetery with military honors.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Forsyth Senior Center, PO Box 668, Gwinn, MI 49841, Lake Superior Hospice Association, 914 W. Baraga Ave., Marquette, MI 49855 or to the D. J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans Activity Fund, 425 Fisher St., Marquette, MI 49855 in Mr. Heinz’s memory.
