HENRY LEO BERTAGNOLI
May 6, 1920 - August 8, 2010

Henry L. Hank Bertagnoli, 90, formerly of 701 W. College Avenue, Marquette, died early Sunday morning, August 8, 2010 at the D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans in Marquette where he had resided since April of 2005.

Mr. Bertagnoli was born on May 6, 1920 in Caspian, Michigan, a son of the late Alex and Angeline (Dallapiaza) Bertagnoli. He had lived in Marquette since 1936, moving here from Norway, Michigan. He graduated from Gravereat High School in 1939. Henry attended Michigan State University. He played football for Michigan State University and graduated with a degree in Physical Education in 1943. He entered the Army Air force and served as a Sergeant, stationed in the Pacific during World War II.

Hank married the former Ruth Perrin on April 27, 1946 at St. Johns Catholic Church in Marquette and she preceded him in death on March 16, 2003.

Henry received a Masters Degree from NMU. He owned the Shamrock Bar before selling it and taking a job at St. Peters School as a physical education and science teacher. He worked for Northern Michigan University for 25 years scoring and running clocks for Football and Basketball games for NMU.

Hank was a founding member of St. Michaels Church Construction Committee, and an active member of St. Michaels Parish and School for 60 years. Henry served as a member of St. Michaels School Board, St. Michaels Serra Vocations Club, and St. Michaels Mens Club. He was a Reader, an Usher and served at Funerals for St. Michaels Parish.

Henry was a life member of Msgr. Nolan B. McKevitt Council #689 Knights of Columbus, Marquette Elks Lodge #405, American Legion Post #44, and was also a member of the First Friday Bridge Club.

Survivors include four sons, James (Cynthia) Bertagnoli of LAnse, Martin (Denise) Bertagnoli of Elgin, IL, Joseph (Lorene) Bertagnoli of Petersburg, AK and Alan (Michelle) Bertagnoli of Algonquin, IL; seven grandchildren, Glen, Andy, Anthony, Angela, Nicholas, Mathew and Alex; five great grandchildren, Brayden, Noni, Gianna, Ethan and Natalee; also surviving are four nieces, two nephews and special friend Dorothy Madigan. Preceding him in death besides his parents and his wife was a sister, Vivian DesJardins.

Friends may call at the Canale-Tonella Funeral Home on Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. where a parish prayer service will be recited at 7:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10 a.m. at St. Michael Catholic Church with the Rev. Larry Van Damme officiating. Burial will take place in the Holy Cross Cemetery.
