In loving memory of

EMMA DELMONT
November 26, 1916 - July 20, 2009

Emma Delmont, 92 formerly of Little Lake passed away on Monday, July 20, 2009 surrounded by her family at the Bishop Noa Home in Escanaba where she had been a resident since April of this year.

Emma was born in Beaver (Baldwin Township, Delta County) on November 26, 1916 to Joseph and Victorine (LaBresh) LaChance. She married Charles Delmont on May 19, 1934 at St. Joseph's Church in Perkins. Together they raised five children and were married for 71 years prior to Charlie's death in 2005.

Emma was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother. Emma was most comfortable at home in her kitchen or spending time with family. She loved to bake and always had bread and cookies for you when you visited and the coffee pot was always on. She was a wonderful cook, you never left Emma's house without eating something, whether it be a meal or just cookies with your coffee. She spent many years working as a cook for several schools in the area including Rock, Gwinn and Republic. She also worked as a cook at Peterson's Restaurant in Gwinn many years ago. Emma enjoyed going to the McFarland Camp with Charlie and the family. They spent many years cutting brush together in the fall and peeling cedar logs to build outdoor furniture after Charlie retired. Emma was a talented crafter as well and was "famous" for her towels and booties.

Emma and Charlie had farms in both Perkins and Rock during their married life and enjoyed raising animals as well as producing a spectacular garden from which she would can the vegetables they grew. She also loved to pick strawberries in season and make jam. Emma's pantry was always full.

Emma was a long time member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Gwinn and a devout Catholic. She enjoyed praying her rosary every day. She also enjoyed being a member of the Merry Mixers in Gwinn and going to the Senior Dinners where she had many friends.

Emma is survived by her five children; Lawrence (Dolores Abbott) of Saginaw; Wilfred (Ruth Gauthier) of Little Lake, Jane (Art) Sodermark of Gladstone, Raymond (Mary Saari) of Escanaba and Donald (Linda Filizetti) of Gwinn, 14 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild as well as several nieces and nephews. Emma is also survived by three sisters; Delphine Tucker of Tacoma, WA; Elaine Oman of Gladstone, MI; Delores (Dede) Rife of Green Bay, WI; and one brother Zeph LaChance of Saginaw, MI.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Victorine; her husband, Charles; one son James; brothers Albert, Elmer, David, Delore, Wilfred, Joseph (Tony); and sisters Helen, Bertha and Marie.

Friends may call at the Canale Gwinn Funeral Home on Tuesday, July 28 from 2 until 5:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Anthony Catholic Church beginning at 6:00 p.m. with Father Ron Timock officiating. Burial will take place in the Gwinn Cemetery at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 29th.

"So sorry to hear of Aunt Emma's passing. Some of my fondest memories were of the days and nights on farm at Perkins. Tending to the animals, threshing season, picking berries, etc. Going to town on Saturday night to watch a movie on an outdoor screen (Remember "Robin Hood" with Errol Flynn?) For the weeks I would spend with them every summer, I was treated as one of the family. What a wonderful, caring family."
