EDWARD P. BURCH
August 31, 1920 - November 30, 2008

Edward P. Burch, 88, of 1606 Bayview Drive, Marquette, died Sunday morning, November 30, 2008 at Marquette General Hospital after a short illness.

Mr. Burch was born on August 31, 1920 in Marquette to the late Andrew and Mary (Pleski) Burch and was a lifelong area resident.

A 1938 graduate of Bishop Baraga High School, Ed enlisted in the U.S. Navy spending six years in service to his country including action during World War II.

He worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 26 years, retiring in 1988 as Superintendent of Mail. He had also worked for 10 years for the former Duluth South Shore and Atlantic Railroad as a Carman.

Ed was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, American Legion Post 44, the Marquette Elks Lodge and Marquette Golf Club. On November 7, 1987, he married the former Beverly R. Normand at St. Michael's in Marquette.

He is survived by his wife, the former Beverly R. Normand whom he married on November 7, 1987 at St. Michael's Church; two step-children, Debra Paquette and Suzanne (David) Richard, both of Marquette; five grandchildren, Corrie LaCombe, Ryan Richard, Casey Hanford, Robert Hanford III and Sonna Hanford; five great grandchildren, Kimberly, Alexis and Hailee LaCombe, Jordan Benz, and Colton Hartz; also a daughter-in-law, Cindy Hanford of Marquette. Preceding him in death besides his parents was a brother, Raymond Burch, a sister, Florence Balwinski; a step-son, Robert Hanford, Jr. and a step-son-in-law, Emil Paquette.

Visitation will be held at the Canale-Tonella Funeral Home on Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. where a parish prayer service will be held at 7:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 10 a.m. at St. Michael Catholic Church with the Rev. Msgr. Jed Patrick officiating. Spring burial will take place in the Holy Cross Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Robert Hanford III, Ryan Richard, Francis Matson, Frank Sciotto, Tony Lacombe and James Matson.
