Jeanne Marie Carberry, 84, of Munising, died Thursday morning, May 15, 2008 at Tender Care Nursing Center in Munising.
She was born June 11, 1923, in Munising, a daughter of the late Arthur and Elma (Syers) LaFlamme and had been a lifelong area resident. On October 9, 1953 she married Elson Carberry and he preceded her in death on May 6, 2003.
Jeanne worked for a number of years as a cook and waitress. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, St. Anthony's Guild, Hospital Auxiliary, Alger County Historical Society, Pictured Rocks Golf & Country Club and participated in the ladies golf league.
Jean enjoyed many hobbies, but her true talents were in the kitchen and at an easle. Even as a young child she showed promise as a painter and once she was into her golden years, she pursued her artist flare with a passion. Many homes are graced with her fine paintings signed lovingly with Jolie, which was her lifelong nickname. Even after she lost her sight, she enjoyed cooking and baking. She was known far and wide for her famous Jean's Beans and her funeral casseroles. Her sense of humor and her willingness to laugh at herself made for some great laughs for her family and friends. She will also be missed around the card table by her Old Fashioned drinking 500 buddies.
She is survived by 6 children, Judith (Rick) Green of Bay City, Claudia (Pepper) VanLandschoot of Munising, Rochelle Cotey of Munising, Charlene Carberry of Lakeport, MI, Peggy Carberry of Munising and Suzette (Greg) Quinn of Munising; siblings, Peg (Willard) Sappington, Arthur LaFlamme and Nancy (Stanley) Prunick, all of Munising; 10 grandchildren, Helen, Paula, Tara, Kristie, Barb, Brook, Wes, Alicia, Noelle and Andrew; and 10 great-grandchildren, Gaia, Gabriel, Noah, Marissa, Kelsea, Dayne, Hattie Sue, Duray, Marcus and Anthony "A.J.". She was preceded in death by a sister, Eva Thayer.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, May 20, 2008 at 10 a.m. in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Munising with Rev. Chris Gardner officiating. Interment will be in Maple Grove Cemetery.
The Canale-Tonella Funeral Home is assisting the family.

"Auntie Jean seemed to be doing so well when we saw her in February, we were shocked and saddened to hear of her passing. So many memories, her hot dishes for the end of summer gatherings at the Homestead stand out. Few people can make my husband blush but Auntie Jean sure could! All of the Lindquist crew send their condolences and will miss her."
