R. Bond Perket, 83, of 325 Lakewood Lane, Marquette, died Wednesday evening, February 6, 2008 at his home following a short illness.
He was born in Escanaba on October 25, 1924 to the late Otto and Lillian (Rheaum) Perket. Bond graduated from Escanaba High School in 1942. He then enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps., serving for three years as a radar specialist.
Bond received a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering in 1950 from Michigan Technological University in Houghton. In 1951 he received a Bachelor of Science degree in education from Northern Michigan University and a Master's degree in administration from the University of Michigan in 1953. Bond completed additional graduate studies at Michigan State University and Northern, earning an education specialist degree from NMU in 1958.
Bond worked as a mathematics and physics teacher for ten years at Graveraet High School before being named business manager. He was employed as Assistant Superintendent of Marquette Public Schools from 1972 until his retirement in 1985.
Perket served as advisor to the high school student council while a teacher and was the first executive director of Junior Achievement of Marquette, holding that post for the first eight years of its existence.
He previously served on the board of directors of the Marquette Area Chamber of Commerce for 3 years and the board of the U.P. Catholic Credit Union for 27 years. He was associated with the U.S. and Michigan Business Officials.
He is survived by his wife, the former Harriet L. King who he married in 1946; two children, Patty (Tom) Crofts of Lake Bluff, IL and J. Bond (Anne) Perket of Media, PA; also surviving are two cherished grandchildren, Jacob and Genna Crofts.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. in St. Peter Cathedral with the Rev. Francis Ricca officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the mass in the Bishop's Room of the cathedral. Entombment will take place in the Holy Cross Cemetery Mausoleum.
Pallbearers will be Don Bowers, Bill Brady, Pat Daust, Bill Hart, Pat Ruecker and Julius Tiziani.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Lake Superior Hospice Association, 914 W. Baraga Ave., Marquette, MI 49855.
