Shirley Anne (Hansen) McQuade, 83, of Lighthouse Road in Big Bay, Mich., died Dec. 31 at Marquette General Hospital following a brief illness.
She was born June 14, 1922, in Marquette, Mich., to Harry and Judith (Moberg) Hansen.
Shirley graduated from Graveraet High School in Marquette in 1940 and attended Northern Michigan University.
She was united in marriage to Robert McQuade on Sept. 19, 1946, at St. Peters in Marquette.
Shirley was a devoted wife and mother who loved to read, cook, socialize with friends and visit with her family.
She is survived by her sister, Jean (Hansen) Edgar; son Mike McQuade and daughter-in-law Shannon Luckey of Sheboygan, Wis.; son Tim McQuade and daughter-in-law Patti Schnorr of Appleton, Wis.; grandchildren Daniel McQuade of Sheboygan; Allen McQuade of Greensboro, N.C.; Trisha McQuade of Las Vegas, Nev.; and Tayler Crallie of Appleton; sister-in-law Elizabeth Betty Carpenter of Sand River, Mich.; nephews Matt Carpenter of Oconomowoc, Wis.; Mike Carpenter of Austin, Tex.; Dan (Ann) Carpenter of Waukesha, Wis.; Steve Carpenter of Oconomowoc; Alan (Gail) Edgar of Chattanooga, Tenn.; Tom (Ling Yu) Edgar of Wolf Creek, W.V.; and Christopher (Linda) Edgar of Grand Rapids, Mich.; nieces Mary (Greg Ftoewer) Carpenter of Esko, Minn.; Clair Carpenter of Lafayette, Colo.; Jean Carpenter of Duluth, Minn.; and Ellen Carpenter of Minneapolis, Minn.; grandnieces and nephews; and close friends Lillian Johnson and Sophie Kuiawa of Big Bay.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, in 1995; her parents; brother Harry Hansen, Jr.; sister-in-law Mary Patricia McQuade; and brothers-in-law Jack Carpenter and Robert Edgar.
She was a longtime member of St. Marys Catholic Church in Big Bay, where she was active in many church functions. She also had been an active member of Holy Name Catholic Church in Sheboygan, where she lived with her family for many years.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at noon on Wednesday in St. Marys Catholic Church in Big Bay, with the Rev. Roy Joseph officiating. Visitation will be held at the church from 11 a.m. until noon.
Pallbearers will be Shirleys sons, Tim and Mike McQuade; her grandson, Allen McQuade; and nephews Allen and Tom Edgar, and Matt Carpenter.
Burial will take place in the Big Bay Cemetery in the spring.
