"In the seven most formative years of my life, ages 7-14, I had the pleasure to live across the street from the O'Neill family. I have told my own kids many stories about the fun Jack and I had having our run of the neighborhood, the city, and the whole area. Verna opened her heart and her home to me, where I was treated like another member of her own brood. There was a time when I probably ate more meals at her table than at my own, and I always felt welcome. What a great gift of kindness she gave me. I will carry those fond memories of her and the whole O'Neill family with me for my whole life."

"My deepest sympathy to Alley, LeAnn, Jack and Denis. I am sorry I am unable to be there for all of you in person at this very difficult time. Verna touched many of our lives in a special way and will always remain in our hearts. To some you are forgotten. To some just part of the past. To us, who truly loved her, her memory will always last. I'll never forget how Verna was always there to offer a helping hand when one was needed. She was a wonderful friend and neighbor. I'll never forget her. May she rest in peace."
