Donald E. Jensen
July 28, 1920 - September 23, 2002

Donald E. Jensen, 82, of 257 S. River Drive, Gwinn, died Monday evening, September 23, 2002 at his home after a lengthy illness.

Mr. Jensen was born on July 28, 1920 in Escanaba, Michigan to the late Chris and Caroline (Peterson) Jensen. He had been a resident of Gwinn since 1964. He attended school in Arnold, Gwinn and Escanaba and was a veteran of World War II.

Joining the Army Air Corp in 1942, he proudly served his country for 21 years. He received the Distinguished Flying Cross Air Medal with 3 oak clusters, the Victory Medal and the Distinguished Unit Badge.

Don worked at the former K.I. Sawyer Air Force Base with the 410th Engineering Squadron and the 410th Field Maintenance Squadron until retiring in 1980. He spent 16 years in Civil Service as a civil engineer for the U.S. government.

He married the former Marie Jane Westman in San Angelo, Texas on April 17, 1946. Marie was raised in the Little Lake area.

Mr. Jensen was a member of Grace Lutheran Church of Gwinn, and Gwinn VFW Post 5670.

Survivors include his wife, Marie; one daughter, Marvis (Danny) Stafford of Iron River; four sons, Jeffrey (Beradette) Jensen of Gwinn, Jerry (Marla) Jensen of Gwinn, Clayton (Jody) Jensen of Tucson, AZ and Bernard (Pamela) Jensen of Marquette; 10 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren; one sister, Eileen Boerschinger of Escanaba; a brother, Christian (Lillie) Jensen, Jr. of Wells; also a brother-in-law, Jim (Bonnie) Hurkman and special friends, Bill and Nancy Baker of Little Lake. Preceding him in death besides his parents was a son, Daryl Jensen; one brother, Russel Jensen; also two sisters, Genevieve Hurkman and Dorthy Ussher.

Services are scheduled for Thursday at 1:30 p.m. in Grace Lutheran Church in Gwinn with Rev. Nancy Kauppi officiating. There will be no visitation. Mr. Jensens grandsons will act as his escorts.
