I personally admired her love, dedication and service as well as her great mind, thoroughness, her strong feminine personality and tender sensitivity to the needs of others. "Sr. Joyce Sr. Joyce has passed, and what is there to say? I'm sorry, my sympathies, let us all pray. She will be remembered for all that she has done. In times of trouble, times of sorrow, and even times of fun. She gave her all, asking nothing in return. If we could act the same, Oh, what a lesson we would learn. To remember her now is the least one could do. Please do it in a way that she would have wanted you too. Give to the needy and lend a kind hand. Helping those less fortunate is a gift in high demand. If we all do this, her memory will spread throughout the land. With one thing left to say, "Sister, I love you, God bless you, Amen." -PAW-"

"My deepest sympathy to Sister Joyce's family and her Franciscan Sisters. I wish I could be there in person to be with you, but alas! I am not able to be since I am wheel chair bound from knee surgery. Sister Joyce was a unique person. She radiated God's love and joy to all she met. She was caring and helpful to those in need. And she was always willing to take the time and make the time to help, assist and care. She will certainly be missed by me. Our diocese will be at a loss without her expertise and knowledge. May God grant to you, Sr. Joyce's family, loved one and beloved Sisters of St. Francis, care and comfort in your grief and loss. Draw upon God's gentle love at this most difficult time and let God fill you with peace. And may God grant her Eternal Rest and may Light Perpetual Shine upon her and may she enjoy the fullness of Life, now and forever. Amen!"

Joyce and I have shared so much more than work. She was a beautiful person inside and out. An inspiration to all who lives she touched across the Diocese. Her lack of presence in our office will be felt for a very long time. Our hearts are hurting for her family and friends and for our staff. Sharing in staff days and day-to-day situations is never going to be the same. Do know we loved and appreciated working with Joyce. We may forget some of the things Joyce has said over the years, but we will never forget how she made us feel. Love, Mary Bradley"

"Dear Sisters, Co-workers, Family and Friends of Sr. Joyce, Please accept the prayers and sympathy of the Paulist National Catholic Evangelization Association (PNCEA) in the loss of Sr. Joyce Rose. Joyce was a faithful religious and a truly apostolic woman. Her enthusiasm and dedication to education and evangelization were inspiring and infectious. Joyce attended one of our Evangelization Training Institutes in 1997. We worked with Joyce in offering Disciples in Mission, An Evangelization Experience, to the Diocese of Marquette since 1998. She had a heart for the spread of the gospel. Joyce was so alive and energetic it is hard to write of her in the past tense. Through her we are reminded that life has changed, not ended. While those of us who remain on this earth a while longer will not have Joyces voice to urge us on, we will always have her spirit with us."

She was a woman of wonderful spirt and love for our Lord. We shared an interest in appreciation and protection of the environment, and had lively discussions on the topic. She was also a natural evangelist, and shared with me her enthusiasm for Vatican II documents. While she will be deeply missed by all of us, I am certain that Joyce is at God's side right now, passing on her views on the environment and giving Him tips on how to better spread the gospel message ! She was a marvelous woman of great spirit and dedication who impacted many in her all too brief time with us. Our prayers are with Joyce's family, the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity, and her many friends."

"What a wonderful gift it was to be present Wednesday and Thursday in Manitowoc with so many people who loved and had been touched profoundly by Joyce! Back home now, I am grateful for Joyce's deep love of all life and for her living with warmth and zest. For all of us who love her, may her holy spirit be with us as we do the same in our own little world!"

"First to you Joyce - It was a blessing to be able to work with you in and out of the diocesan office for 19 years; well actually more like a blast, yes a blast of energy, of vision, of pushing the edge, of making work exciting, fun and challengeing. We did things well together, and you showed me how to look to the strengths of others that I lack in myself, how to be more sensitive to the injustices toward women, how to sharpen my communication skills and the important distinction between being assertive and aggressive, how to empower others ...etc.etc.. and that laugh...won't ever forget it. Your physical death has indeed left a void in and beyond the diocese but I can say with certainty, your presence will continue to be made known through the many you have touched over the years. Relax, your work is done now... And I will miss you... To Mrs. Rose, Joy, Janet, Ruth,Alvin, Elmer and Henry...we deeply share your loss and thank you for sharing Joyce with us. And if it is any consolation, be assured she will continue to touch your lives with her love."
Sister Carol Mathe wrote on Apr 6, 2009:
"To all of the Rose family, What a beautiful gift you have been given with the world being blessed with Joyce's presence. She has touched so many and they have truly grown. God's blessings on all of you as you share the many memories. I worked under Sister Joyce in the Marquette Diocese for 5 years - what a joy! Sister Carol Mathe"

"I offer my sympathy to the Franciscan Community, the family and many friends of S. Joyce. S. Barbara Berthiaume is a member of my community, the Sisters of St. Joseph of Concordia, KS. She grieves the death of S. Joyce as she remembers and celebrates her life. There are people who enter our lives and we are changed. S.Joyce must have been one of those persons. I am grateful to know her through other people. Now her memory lives on through me, too. The zeal she had for ministry, for education, for social issues, for a simple Franciscan life style, is a virtue to emulate! May you dance a dance of Fire, Light and Freedom in the presence of our God, dear S. Joyce!"
