Robert O. Jetty
March 22, 1920 - March 14, 2001

Robert O. Jetty, 80, of Negaunee Township, died Wednesday, March 14, 2001 at his home.

Mr. Jetty was born March 22, 1920 in Ishpeming to the late John and Anna (Oien) Jetty. He was a 1939 graduate of Kingsford High School.

Following graduation he served in the U.S. Army as a cook during World War II. On July 3, 1948 Robert married the former Sigrid A. Abrahamson at Messiah Lutheran Church in Marquette. He managed A & P Grocery Stores in Marquette, Gladstone and Manistique spanning a period of 35 years before retiring in 1982. He then moved to Florida until returning to this area in June of last year.

Following an old family tradition, Bob took pride in baking coffeecakes from his mothers recipe and enjoyed sharing them with family and friends.

Mr. Jetty is survived by his wife of 52 years, Sigrid; four daughters, Arlene (Richard) Johnson of Gwinn, Karen (Kurt) Teramo of Grand Rapids, MI, Cheryl (Jerry) Sample of Manistique and Marcia (Dean) Wiegand of Green Bay, WI; a brother, Rev. John (Grete) Jetty of Sun Lakes, AZ; a sister-in-law, Nancy Pinner, Island Grove, FL; five grandchildren, Tim (Holli) Popour, Gina Popour, Brittany Sample, Mallory Sample and Paul Teramo; also one great grandson, Aiden Popour.

A memorial service will be held Saturday at 3 p.m. at Messiah Lutheran Church with Rev. Nancy Amacher and Rev. Timothy Bernard officiating. A reception will take place immediately following the service in Magnuson Hall.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that memorials be made to Messiah Lutheran Church, 305 W. Magnetic St., Marquette, MI 49855.

The Canale-Tonella Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
