Clyde Francis Bucklin
October 31, 1918 - February 28, 2001

Clyde Francis Bucklin, 82, of Marquette, died Wednesday afternoon, February 28, 2001 at Marquette General Hospital as a result of pneumonia and other complications.

Mr. Bucklin was born October 31, 1918 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He was the son of Clyde F. and Elsie Mae (Rasnick) Bucklin. Clyde was raised in Minneapolis and moved to Marquette, Michigan at an early age. He attended Graveraet High School and graduated with the class of 1936. He then went on to Northern Michigan University and graduated with a bachelors degree in secondary education 1941.

In 1941-42, Mr. Bucklin taught secondary education in Kenton, Michigan. During World War II, he served in the Army Air Force as a meteorologist at the Panama Canal. Following his military service, he was employed as a special education teacher at Morgan Heights Sanatorium from 1947 through the mid 1960s. During this time, Mr. Bucklin attended graduate school at Eastern Michigan University and the University of Michigan receiving certification in Special Education. His work was recognized in a book documenting the history of special education in Michigan and in a book by Dr. James Acocks entitled: A History of Tuberculosis in the U.P.

In 1959, he also began his teaching career as an English teacher with the Marquette Area Public Schools retiring in June of 1981. During his tenure, he was actively involved as an advisor for the student counsel and for various classes.
Mr. Bucklin was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans and a long-time member of the Michigan Education Association.

He loved the outdoors, including hiking, camping and canoeing. He also loved reading, gardening and music.

Mr. Bucklin is survived by his wife of 54 years, Mary Loretto (Stanaway) Bucklin; a daughter, M. Kathy (Randall) Johnson of Marquette; one son, David Bucklin of Marietta, GA; grandchildren, Lauren and Chelsea Johnson of Marquette and Michael and Matthew Bucklin of Marietta, GA; sisters, Helen McKenzie of Ann Arbor, MI, Katherine (Magnus) Carlson of AuTrain, MI; a sister-in-law, Ruth Bucklin of Traverse City, MI; also several nieces and nephews. His parents and a brother, William BudBucklin preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 3, 2001 at 3 p.m. in the Canale-Tonella Funeral Home with the Rev. Msgr. Jed Patrick officiating. Interment will take place in the Park Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday from noon until the time of services. Refreshments will be served immediately following the service in the funeral home.
