In loving memory of

Thomas R. Mariani

Thomas R. "Rob" Mariani of Phoenix, Arizona, passed away peacefully at home April 24, 2018. Rob was born August 22, 1950 in Phoenix to Ray and Ann Mariani. He was the student body president at West High and graduated from Arizona State University with a Master's degree in Educational Leadership and Supervision. Rob had successful careers in teaching (Glendale American) and pharmaceutical sales, research and development. Over the years Rob could be found outdoors playing tennis, golfing, hiking, listening to Jazz in Sedona, cheering on the Sun Devil football and basketball teams, making soap, and riding on his Harley. Rob had a love of learning that extended throughout his life. He was an avid reader; always looking to expand his knowledge. In his retirement Rob became a Master Gardener, and truly enjoyed his time as a volunteer with the Maricopa County Master Gardener Program. Rob used his vast knowledge to research and write articles for various horticultural publications. Rob cherished traveling with his lovely wife, Cheryl, as well as spending time with his children Patrick and Gioia; his grandchildren Sophie (preceded in death), Liam, Olive, and Isla who he was very proud of; his mother Ann; and his siblings Deb, Pam, and Pat; and numerous nephews and niece. We will miss his sincere generosity, garden grown veggies on his wood fired pizza, dry wit, reflective conversations, and the sparkle in his eyes. A celebration of Rob's life is being planned, please contact family for details. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The University of Arizona in memory of Rob Mariani for the Master Gardener Program @ Maricopa County Extension Office, 4341 E. Broadway Rd., Phoenix, AZĀ  85040-8807. Visit https://hansenmortuary.wpengine.com for condolences.

"Mr. Mariani was my 8th grade teacher at Unit 4/Melvin E. Sine Elementary School in Glendale. He was part of a teaching experiment that was trying team teaching for the upper grades. He was my homeroom teacher and was gifted at finding what kids were good at and letting them use those talents to learn. We did some really interesting things in his class and I still remember him to this day. So sorry to hear that you lost him so young. But he was a wonderful teacher and impacted many students. I know he made a positive lasting impression on me. My condolences to your family."
