Martha (Marti) Ann Burnett Mikl - 76
2/22/43 - 3/22/19
Phoenix, Arizona
Marti A. Mikl, age 76, passed away in the loving embrace of her husband, Mike Mikl at the Hospice Of The Valley At Mayo Clinic, Phoenix, Friday, March 22, 2019. She was born to Francis and Iris (Hall) Burnett on February 22, 1943 at Katherine Shaw Bethea (KSB) Hospital in Dixon, Illinois.
Marti's early life found her traveling with her parents from state to state as her father was an evangelist for the Church of God headquartered in Oregon, Illinois. The family finally settled in Cross Timbers, Missouri where her dad was the minister for the Jordan Church of God. Three sisters were added to the family over the years, all with "M" names out of the Bible. Marti's father raised turkeys and had milk cows and hogs. The girls helped with the farm work, as did Marti's mother. When Marti was 10 years old, her youngest sister, Michal was born. Later, Marti would often recall that on that day 1,500 turkeys got loose. The girls were frantic when a close neighbor, Billy Sundwall, came along and led the turkeys back into an enclosed area with a slightly open feed sack hanging off the back of the pickup truck. In November of 1956, the family moved to Tipp City, Ohio because Marti's father was asked to become the minister for the Brush Creek Church of God.
During her high school years, she was active in Youth for Christ as a Bible quizzer and at her local church. Marti graduated from Tippecanoe High School in Tipp City, Ohio in 1960. During her high school years, she was part of a trio called The Tipp Tones with her sister, Mary. She composed the song that was performed at her own graduation ceremony. Marti then went on to Oregon Bible College in Oregon, Illinois. While there, Marti was part of a trio called The Gospelettes and they made an album called Praise Ye The Lord.
Marti was an accomplished pianist, vocalist and composer. She met and married Richard Dick, a minister for the Church of God and they ministered with word and song at Churches of God in Hammond, Louisiana, Minneapolis, Minnesota and Omaha, Nebraska.
She married Mike Mikl on June 22nd, 1975. Over the years Marti worked for Snelling and Snelling as a job recruiter, was a regional manager for the Milkmaid Cosmetics Company, was a regional sales representative and west coast supplier for the Jerry Schultz Plaque Company and with her husband, Mike managed a home-based company called Triple M. Enterprise and Triple M. Hauling, a contractor for roof removals.
Marti is survived by husband Mike Mikl of Cave Creek, Arizona, their children, Darris (Rex) Mikl of Phoenix, Arizona, Scott Mikl of Phoenix, Arizona, Jeffrey (Ginger) Mikl of Altadena, California, Julie Mikl of Salt Lake City, Utah and grandchildren Kaitlin and Mia Connor, both of Salt Lake City, Utah. She is also survived by her sisters, Mary (Jim) Mickey of Rochelle, Illinois, Miriam (Mimi) (Ed) Bender of Pelzer, South Carolina and Michal (Bob) Gigous of Oregon, Illinois.
Memorials in her name may be made to the Hospice Of The Valley At Mayo Clinic, 5801 East Mayo Boulevard Phoenix, AZ 85087. Special thanks to the physicians and staff at Hospice Of The Valley At Mayo Clinic and the staff at the Hansen Desert Hills Mortuary and Cemetery.
