In loving memory of

Betty Jean Boone

April 3, 1928 - May 3, 2018

On April 3, 1928, Betty Jean Boone was born to George Lee Adams and Nellie Jackson Adams in Hazlehurst, Georgia. She experienced travel early in childhood as her family moved from Georgia to Chicago, Illinois, and then to Belleville, New Jersey. She always loved music and had a beautiful singing voice which she shared in church and high school. Betty graduated from Belleville High School in 1947 and began the life of a working woman. After a variety of challenging jobs, she settled in what was then a growing telephone industry and retired from Verizon as a telecommunications manager.

Betty married Malcolm Earl Boone, the love of her life, on May 14, 1950. They made their home in Bloomfield, New Jersey, and had two children: Linda Carole Boone and Malcolm Earl Boone, Jr. Betty was an avid reader, loved to shop, and yearned to travel. She routinely shopped on Wednesday nights right after work, always read the entire Sunday New York Times (travel section first!) and made a fabulous lasagna.

Through family summer vacations, Betty began to pass her love of travel on to her children. Her husband, who had served in the Navy, enjoyed the sense of adventure, and their happy marriage became filled with frequent travel, expanding world-wide. As grandchildren came along, Betty opened their young hearts to travel too -- loving, supporting and encouraging them in their hopes and dreams. When Betty and Malcolm retired, they relocated to Phoenix, Arizona. They enjoyed the desert lifestyle, continued traveling near and far, and had many visits from East Coast family and friends. Their children eventually also settled in Arizona, keeping the loving family close together.

Betty was predeceased by her husband, Malcolm, in 2012 after 62 years of marriage. She leaves to cherish her memory: her sister, Beverly J. Onley; two children, Linda and Malcolm Jr.; son-in-law, James Wilkinson; daughter-in-law, Hernette Boone; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many loving family members and friends. Visitation will be at 10:00 am on Thursday, May 17 with funeral services at 11:00 at Hansen Desert Hills Mortuary, 6500 E. Bell Road, Scottsdale, AZ. Procession for burial immediately following at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona.

"Linda and family Sorry for the delay in offering our condolences on the loss of beautiful Betty. We met Betty and Mal though Barbara and Marshall as we were neighbors back in the late 80s and early 90s. When I had brain surgery, your mom bought over the most delicious lasagna dinner for my family. We would visit with them at Barbara quite often we would enjoy all the stories they shared with us about their lives back east and their trips we met their sons who would come visit them on their motorbikes across county. we would share tamales at xmas with all of them. Barbara gave me a beautiful rosary she got in Jamaica, which I have on my wall. we kept in touch for a while after we all sold our homes and moved to other locations, unfortunately we got busy with new environments and lost touch. again our loving condolences for a wonderful lady who was my friend. God's Blessings, Molly And Pete Alejandro"
