"Debbie - As you know Doug was such a good friend to so many of us. Our soccer team at AU was our real frat and Doug was the guy who made us all enjoy life more. As a teammate he was certainly amongst the best I ever played with and I really cherish the memories not only of those college days so many years ago but also of the special weekend during our reunion. So glad to have been able to have spent time with Doug and everyone then. My heart, thoughts and prayers is with you during these sad days. Keith"

"Christina and Lauren, I, unfortunately, will not be able to attend your dad's service on Tuesday and to have the chance to meet you. However, I feel as if I already have as your dad and I had a chance to learn of each others' families when planning the AU soccer reunion. I remember you two went to rival schools and opted not to play soccer although your dad thought the was no question you could have - that's quite a compliment! I recall him telling me how important you two were caring for him and your mom during his battle with lupus. Everything was such a big help and he said he would be forever indebted for the sacrifices you made. He thought you two were great - and I do too! Thanks for taking such good care of a guy a knew for a few years before our 2 years together at AU - when we reconnected after 30+ years it was as if we hadn't missed a beat. Please pass on my thoughts and prayers to your mom and to your and Doug's extended family. Sincerely Charlie Davis"

"Debbie, Was saddened deeply to hear of Doug's passing and sending you prayers for your family's strength. As a former AU soccer player, i was comforted by players like Doug when I came in as a young freshman. Doug had graduated but he came back and spent plenty of time with the team and had been an obvious leader amongst his teammates. He had a big personalty, and was liked and respected by all. I'm sure you are well aware that the soccer community is like a fraternity, and I feel like I have lost a brother for sure. He will be missed by all."
