In loving memory of

John Thoms

John William Thoms, 71, of Phoenix, AZ died Monday, February 1, 2016, following numerous health complications. John was born on November 23, 1944 in Bloomington, IL to John and Margaret Thoms, and he graduated from Holy Trinity Catholic High School in Bloomington. After serving in the U. S. Navy, he attended Illinois State University and began his lengthy career as a computer technician, a career which eventually led him and his family to Arizona. John was married to Judith A. Jacobs of Lexington, IL for forty-eight wonderful years, and he is survived by his wife, Judy Thoms of Phoenix, and daughters Brenda Grothaus and Carrie Thoms. He also leaves behind three precious grandchildren, Tyler, Hallie and Nick, and his brother, Michael Thoms of Towanda, IL. John loved music and was an avid reader, and his pleasant nature and storehouse of tales made it easy for him to chat with anyone. He loved to recount memories of his youth, and he always had a smile on his face. John will always be remembered by his family for being an amazing husband, a wonderful father, and a loving grandfather. He will be sorely missed by everyone who knew him. His memorial service is scheduled to be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 13, 2016 at Hansen Chapel, 8314 N.7th St., Phoenix, AZ 85020. Family and friends are welcome to attend and join in celebration of John's life.

"I first met John when we shared an apartment in Sunnyvale Cal. during a training course. I have to say he was one of the nicest, kindest gentlemen I have ever met and we became lifelong friends. I descended on him and his lovely wife Judy with my family in 1981 and we all had many adventures on both sides of the Atlantic since then. We were so very sad to hear of his passing and find it so difficult to believe that he is no longer with us. I hope you have found a better place John."

James F. Hauskins wrote on Feb 11, 2016:

"I am humbled to to have had a close friendship with John going back to our early childhood days. Anyone who knew him, already knows, more than i can express what a remarkable human being he was. To his loving and adoring wife Judy( who I also have had the privilege of knowing since our teens), children and grandchildren I offer my deepest sympathies for your loss. I know the legacy John has left with family, wife and all those who knew him, will be remembered in there hearts and spirits always, as it will be in mine."
