Karen Mchugh

Karen Lea McHugh (nee Hurley) passed away on January 9, 2016 at age 51. Karen (Kari) a true American Irish Rose was born to Edward and Nora Hurley in Albert Lea Minnesota. They moved to the valley where her parents owned the Aqua Den Tavern. She attended Carl Hayden high school. Her love of travel and history sent her to many places here and abroad where her love for her Irish heritage grew. She garnered many friends and family in the UK, Ireland, and elsewhere. She was an avid fan of Ozzy Osbourne and was known for her keen knowledge of music history and the street and sports. She attended Phoenix College where she studied literature and her love for poetry grew. Karen met her husband, James, at O'Connor's pub and they married in Houston, she continued her education there and became a paralegal C.C.L. Karen's greatest accomplishment came when she became a mother. With Katie they moved back to Arizona. She continued her career in AZ and her love of traveling took her to Europe. She was at the top of her career and the center of attention in any gathering with her beautiful smile and laugh. Karen's presence has left a distinct imprint on anyone who has ever met her and she will be remembered centuries to come. Karen was preceded in death by her parents, brother Kevin Hurley, and her sister Janis Walsh. She is survived by her husband of 20 years, James Paul McHugh, her daughter, Caitlin (Katie), her sisters; JoAnne Merifield, Donna Sciara, Michelle Hernandez, and Paula Mastrapasqua, and Lynn Kelly-Miller; Brothers Edward Hurley Jr, and Kyle Hurley, and numerous nieces and nephews who held a special place in her heart. The Rosary will be held Friday, January 15th from 6-8 pm at Hansen Chapel, 8314 N. 7th Street, Phoenix, AZ 85020 Main: (602) 944-1561. Mass will be on Saturday, January 16th at Noon at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 8620 N. 7th Street,  Phoenix. Graveside will be 1:30 at Greenwood Memory Lawn, 719 N. 27th Ave., Phoenix.

"I first met Kari when she visited England back in 1997 with James and Katie. Over the years I have spent time with Kari and met her wonderful family in Arizona. We have watched our children grow into adults and kept in touch. I Shared a few corona beers with this girl and have be welcomed as part of the family. It\'s a great loss and she will be dearly missed."
