Ardelle Freiheit Friday died on November 7, 2015 with her daughters at her side. She was born on August 22, 1933 in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin to Arthur and Verna Freiheit of Markesan, WI. Ardelle graduated from Markesan High School in 1949 and from Methodist Hospital School of Nursing, Madison, WI in 1952 as a Registered Nurse. In 1976 she received her Bachelor of Science degree in social work from the University of Wisconsin-River Falls. Ardelle's greatest joy came from her three children Karl Friday, Louise Friday Wilson, Laura Friday Hefta and their families. Her grandchildren, all very special in their own right, were dearly loved. She took great pride in the accomplishments of each of them. Her father instilled in her the desire and emphasis on the need for and rewards of an education. She felt one of her best efforts was to pass this emphasis on to her children, and in doing so, to also continue her own education. While she loved and appreciated her nursing experiences, she also found great satisfaction in combining nursing with her degree in social work which led to her becoming the Director of Social Service at Divine Redeemer Hospital in South St. Paul, MN. During that time she became involved with the Hospice movement, attended sessions with Dr. Kubler-Ross, and helped establish a hospice unit in the hospital. After tiring of the Wisconsin and Minnesota winters she moved to Phoenix, AZ in 1984. Lots of sunshine and warm temperatures agreed with her and she loved the change. She first worked for a nursing service, next at the Attorney General's Office, and then as Director of Member Services for Arizona Physicians' IPA. Before retiring she also worked in the same capacity for FHP Health Care. She co-authored and was published three times on the subject of changing careers, of which she had personal experience. Ardelle totally enjoyed retirement filling the time with travel, reading, writing, theater, concerts, volunteering, and wonderful times spent with family and friends. She always believed she had had a wonderful life and appreciated every segment of it, as well as, every friend she made along the way. In parting from this world, she leaves son Karl and daughter-in-law Chie; daughter Louise and former son-in-law Joe, along with Jake, Sean, Jade, and Liz; daughter Laura and son-in-law Stan with Jonathan and Joshua; and former husband Fritz Friday. Preceding her in death were her parents and brother Gene Freiheit. A memorial service and celebration of life will be held at the Hansen Mortuary Chapel on Saturday, August 6, 2016 at 2:00 PM. Ardelle requested that memorials be directed to the John C. Lincoln Hospital Foundation. Please visit www.hansenmortuary.com for condolences.
