Phoenix, Arizona
Catherine (Cathy) Elizabeth McCue passed away August 2, 2015. Cathy was born in Forfar, Scotland and migrated to the United States with her parents and younger sister Allison as a child. She lived In New York until she and her first husband Dennis Schoenthaler along with their 6 young children moved to Arizona. They were just settling in when Dennis was killed in a car accident. She was all alone in a new State but made the decision to stay and raise her children in AZ. She began work as a Home Health Care Nurse. She then met Lee McCue and married her second husband who brought along his 2 children making her family complete. A few years later her oldest son Paul Schoenthaler was killed in a hit and run accident. Sometime after that she started volunteering at the Red Cross and ultimately worked for them retiring after 20 years. After retiring from Red Cross she worked for FEMA and traveled extensively both while helping others in her job and for fun. She loved to Scuba Dive and was a Divemaster. She went dog sledding in Alaska, on a small single engine plane in Guam and had many other adventures. She worked the 9/11 disaster and also after Katrina. In 2010 she was diagnosed with Alzheimer's but never completely forgot her family. Right up until the end her face would light up when any of us came to visit. She might not remember our name but she knew we belonged to her. She would often talk to the staff of her family and say how much she loved all of us.
She is survived by her sister Allison Flower (Dave), her second husband Lee McCue, her children, Andrea Schiefelbein (Denzil), Susan Hansen (Phil), Karl McCue (Prudence), Eric Schoenthaler, Marlene Dwinnell, Tricia Ackerman and William Schoenthaler; 16 Grandchildren; 10 Great Grandchildren.
