William Melvon Clemons, Sr. "Bill", July 22, 1946 - February 17, 2014. Born to Clarence and Thelma in Norfolk, VA, he was the youngest of three. Clarence, Jr. was the eldest and Geraldine was next. His life revolved around God and music. He cherished the time he spent with his wife of 42 years Patricia and his children Christina, Bill Jr., Quincy, Jake and Gabriel, also coming to know and love Jarod his nephew. Rarely was he ever as happy as when playing with his grandchildren Kaya, Kuba, Sophia Quincy and Ozzie. He also found great joy in teaching countless children the love of music. A twenty-one year Marine Corps veteran, he earned medals in Vietnam and rose from the rank of private to captain as he became one of the most popular director of the Marine Corps. He died surrounded by his family and friends February 17th at 7:45 P.M., Presidents Day. Always a patriot he served his God and country with honor and repect. His greatest wish was that all who met him would come to know the life changing love of Jesus Christ. He will be dearly missed and not soon forgotten. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, March 15, 2014 at 12:00 P.M. (noon) at Calvary Community Church, 12612 North Black Canyon Highway, Phoenix, AZ 85029. There will be a second Memorial Service held in Chesapeake, VA on a date to still be determined. We are looking at mid April. Interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery with immediate family. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Grace Bible Church, 872 Clearfield Avenue, Chesapeake, VA 23320, Memo: Clarence Clemons Family Youth Center. Grace Bible Church stands at the site of the childhood home of the Clemons family (same address). The Clarence Clemons Family Youth Center is a legacy that Bill and Clarence cherished.
