Helen Romaine

Helen Marie Romaine, 93, of Phoenix, Arizona passed away January 4, 2014 with her family by her side. She was born to Frank and Mary Sluga February 3, 1920 in Westline, Pennsylvania. After graduation from high school, she pursued her lifelong dream of becoming a registered nurse. She joined the Army Nurse Corps on May 18, 1942 and was discharged as a Captain in 1947. She married the late Owen W. Romaine (Lt. Col. USAF) in 1947 in Honolulu, Hawaii. They were stationed in many places in the U.S. and spent four years in Wiesbaden, Germany. Helen lived for the next 47 years in Phoenix after her husband's retirement from the Air Force in 1967. She was a nurse at Youngtown Hospital for many years. Helen is survived by her three children: Marsha Romaine of Eagle River, Alaska; James Romaine of Prescott, AZ and William Romaine of Phoenix. She is also survived by one grandchild, Amanda Romaine. A visitation will be from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 9, 2014 at Hansen Chapel, 8314 N. 7th Street, Phoenix, AZ 85020. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, January 10, 2014 at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 8620 N. 7th Street, Phoenix, AZ 85020.
