Leone Flaniken Beers of Phoenix, Arizona was born on July 2, 1925 and passed away on January 27, 2013 at the age of 87. Leone was preceded in death by her brothers James Witherington Flaniken and John Culton Flaniken Jr., her husband Dr. Robert G. Beers and her daughter Barbara Witherington Beers. Leone was an amazing lady who blessed everyone she knew. She graduated from Rhodes College in Memphis, Tennessee where she was a member of Alpha Omega Pi sorority. She and Bob were married in Memphis on June 27, 1947 and moved to Marshfield, Missouri where she began married life as the bride of a country doctor. In 1952 they moved to Phoenix, Arizona where she lived for over sixty years. Leone was an Elder of Orangewood Presbyterian Church, a member of the Junior League and numerous service organizations. She was an incredible mother and wonderful grandmother. Leone was known for her sweet southern charm, happy heart and gracious manner. She loved to host company and was a gourmet cook. Her mischievous sense of humor led to many exciting Christmas mornings, birthdays and holidays in her home. Leone was an avid golfer and notched her first hole-in-one after the age of 70. She loved to quilt, play bridge and read. Her sense of adventure and happy demeanor made her a favorite among friends and family. She dedicated her life to the care of her family, service to those in need and loving the Lord. She is survived by her children Mike Beers of Casa Grande, Arizona, John Beers of Walnut Creek, California, Jim Beers of New York, New York, Roberta Chrivia of Fort Collins, Colorado and Joe Beers of Phoenix, Arizona. She is also survived by ten grandchildren. Private memorial services will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Arizona.
